FOAM AND FOIL

Oh hello hello hello...I am SO EXCITED….I know I told you before about writing with a certain glue (DUO) and using foil after it dried…WELL I found another way to use the foil…. this is the card that we made at the class I took at IMPRESS…it was a die cut of the deer head then we stuck it to our card AND THEN applied the foil…JUST FABULOUS…

Yes, there sorta crinkles that show up much more in the photo then on the actual head…also the large dot was foil…now here are my balloon cards…

ok scanning doesn’t do them justice so I am going to photo them and drag them in…

ok that is much better you can see the brightness of the foil at least on one of them…lol… the one on the left has gold ballon on left panel and multicolor balloons on the right… I just love this and this is an old card pattern that we got from SCS…. BUT now they have it in a die with lots of extra dies for embellishment…it cuts the balloons and scores where to fold the card then give you several seperate balloon dies to cut and glue on to the card…you pretty much need to to this as while it cuts the top of the balloon so to give you a place to stick it that is really what it is is just a place marker as there is no bottom to the balloon so it just looks like a hump but you can choose to add different embellishments just cover up the bumps with your own embellishments…hearts….stars….cupcakes…even photos… I did a blog long ago on  and if you type SCS SIDE STEP  in the search box it will tell you what that blog was and you can click on it an go see it… by manual fashion it was several cuts and score lines  BUT AMAZON NOW HAS this complete card for use with your die cutting machine from it has a die for the complete card plus embellishments  SIZZIX BALLOON STEP UP for about $22 I think…anyway you decide you don’t need this to make the foam balloons..if you have dies or punches etc… you could also do candles fun to put a lot on the card on the 3 side steps and maybe your wish or note on the front… I wrote my notes on the back panel…

this was the back of my Mom’s card and I wrote with a gold pen that doesn’t show up too well on scan….then I punched out the balloons cause the one on the left is the one where I got clear piece of foil tape stuck on it and ended up ripping all the sticky off trying to remove it…:( so just covered it with a punched out balloon out of card stock…then I used all the little foam bits that came out of the letters as confetti and stuck them down then added the foil but its hard to tell here…

IMPORTANT TIPS

1) do not use the foil on the foam if there is a blank space in the foil and you haven’t covered the foam…ie if you are j ust filling in and most of image is covered its ok as there is only sticky where you are filling in…but I accidently got a huge piece of the clear ( when the foil is used up) stuck on one of mom’s ballons and trying to get it off took all the sticky with it…:(….so I just cut out same size balloon and glued it on top of the damaged piece which was on the back… the words were easier here because I stuck them first on the outline that comes in the set much easier to work with once they are stuck down… still the word birthday is hard as the letters are wobbly to begin with and now you have to try to get them on straight wobbly ..does that make sense…still I liked it…so other words that you have that may have outline background will also work easier…or stick them onto the card then apply the foil… that will also work just fine…

2) It is always going to work easier if you adhere one side of the image/word etc to your card page etc…BEFORE you try to apply the foil… THEN REFER TO TIP 1…IE don’t let a used up piece of foil ( i.e. the foil is gone and now you just have clear acetate) STICK to you image/word etc or it will remove all the sticky and you must start over i.e. new piece of foam or colored paper to cover it up…:( learn from my errors…

Now my cards were done using die cuts…however you might be able to also use punches with some success… don’t try something that is too intricate… a more solid image would work best….the foam is not hard to punch thru but put your piece of foam in the punch with the none shiny side up… the blades in punch will grab the matte paper better than the foam one if your desperate and having trouble but really want to punch out this image try laying a piece of text weight paper in the punch so it punches thru that first then foam…or worst cast cut off a small piece of foam that will fit your image and stick it to a piece of text  weight paper then punch again with text paper facing up so that it cuts that before it hits the sticky… YOU MAY REMEMBER THAT THERE HAS ALWAYS BEEN A RULE OF DON’T cut stucky stuff with you punch…lol… lastly be aware that if you are pushing with all your might on your punch maybe you should stop as it may break it… i.e. DON’T DO THE STEP ON IT TRICK…that may work with card stock but here I think it would be the end of your punch…

CARD DIE FROM AMAZON

Just so you know cursive words are harder to do than box letters …and doing a word where the letters are not connected ….VERY TEDIOUS…not my cup of tea…I want the whole word not letters but letters are possible and probably not that bad if you get them stuck down on card before you attempt to put the foil on…

All of the above warnings… I still really love this stuff…. I know I showed you how to use the glue and write with it to apply the foil after the glue ( DUO ) was dry …but this is even more fun and you can order the DECO FOIL by delta in two sheet packs from either AMAZON or IMPRESS RUBBER STAMPS...AMAZON IS LITTLE CHEAPER AND THEY HAVE PRIME MAILING IF YOU ARE A MEMBER OF THAT. I think I told you before that AMAZON also has the foil in sheets in tubes or in small plastic jars under nail art…I don’t pretend to understand that but there must be a way to use the foil on you nails as well…its cheaper but the strips are only about 1 ½ inch wide but quite long…rolled up in little jar..again available Prime I think but maybe not…When I was at IMPRESS for the class that demo’d this they were out of foam but its back in stock now however I don’t know about the foil..if they have it it may only be silver and gold… you might also find it MICHAEL’S or you might find the spot where its supposed to be but they are out…anyway just other places to check…

EYE CANDY.. BOY IS THIS EVER EYE CANDY…. its from the blog by PAPER AND INK ARTS...and this woman does amazing mail … I must see how to get on her mailing list…lol…

AS ALWAYS THANKS FOR STOPPING BY...wire headed cyber toad….aka kath

ps… there are actually several side step or step up card dies… but look carefully some are just the embellishments separate and some are complete card with embellishment. IN addition to the balloons I saw flowers and one with hearts…since the base is the same for all if you can find embellishments separate then you could go with that rather then buying all 3 complete sets…just saying…
