BOX IN A BAG

MASTER I WANT TO SHARE SOME TREATS….6a00d8341c09ea53ef01bb09490ad4970d-450wi

DAWN’S VIDEO FOR BOX IN A BAG..I know these seem like whaaaaa these are halloween… and its over for a year..however…ya know how I love to repurpose things and I i like these frankie’s so well that I thought you can use them for birthdays and say AT OUR  AGE, BIRTHDAYS ARE SO SCARY ..here’s some chocolate to make it better….she also has directions for making it in several sizes…

I just couldn’t help myself …I just love this guy  and while it requires quite a few pieces i think its worth the effort…

in addition to Frankie , she has included several other images and also gives you different sizes… I haven’t tried it yet but I do believe that you can use that priority mail box the small one to mail this… or you could hope to send it in a cushion envelope…. put fragile on the envelope and they just might hand cancel it.

DAWN’S BAG-A- LOPE

This is so close to the box in a bag that I just thought I[d put them together ..what makes this so cool is that its made OUT OF AN ENVELOPE…no kidding and envelope… what a cool idea… and you can basically use the same measurements for scoring even up to a 6×9 envelope… of course if you make it that big you will need more to fill it… lol…

DAWN'S BAG A LOPE

DAWN’S BAG A LOPE

In addition she suggests you can use one of those small battery tea lights …not the ones with flames…lol…and it is so cute…

BAG A LOPE WITH MINI BATTERY TEA LIGHT …SO COOL

Sometimes I am just not listening well enough because I am sure that I was told before to use those 2 inch yellow airy sponges and then cut them into 4 pieces and use those with a clip to put color on the envelope… but I must have slept thru that suggestion… however when I went to make some of these the other day I tried to use those wooden dowels with the soft color that velcro on the end of it but no matter how much I tired to start off the edge of the page I was still getting circle impressions rather than the overall coverage that she got so I looked again at video and saw…the SPONGES… I must have known at some time cause I had a couple so I cut them and viola it worked just great so that’s my hint this week…use the dang sponges a) they are cheaper then those down things and that open airiness of those sponges works best for soft coverage and for just brushing the edges.

Your STAMPING UP distributor has the sponges in a 3 pack for 3.50 or I also found them on AMAZON a bag of 25…( that’s a lot but you could share)for about $ 11… or a bag of 3 for about 4.50… so you might find them at an art supply store as well… in any case do not do what I did and buy them then not even try them… they do work wonderfully…

Ok that’s it for this week…. go out there and make something… AS ALWAYS THANKS FOR STOPPIN BY…wire headed cyber toad…aka kath

HUMOR..just a little smile from my good friend SHARON CLYMER…
THE IRISH ANGLER

The rain was pouring down. And there standing in front of a big puddle outside the pub, was an old Irishman, drenched, holding a stick with a piece of string dangling in the water.

A passer-by stopped and asked, “What are you doing?”

“Fishing” replied the old man….

Feeling sorry for the old man, the gent said, “Come in out of the rain and have a drink with me.”

In the warmth of the pub, as they sip their whiskeys, the gentleman cannot resist asking, “So how many have you caught today?”

“You’re the eighth”, said the old man.

SCS MINI FILE (TAG) BOX

GREETINGS

I have loved my envelope and box punch board ever since it first came out and when they came out with putting both the envelope and the box on one punch board …priceless…however if you have one of those nothing changes in the directions I have a tip…..it is be sure you open the bottom leg on the board so that you can embossing all the way down.

Next I love this design a lot because it makes use of all those WONDERFUL DUPLEX 6X6 SQUARES…and you can make 4 out of a 12×12 square… plus what a clever idea to make holiday tags for gifts …. as she points out they are quick and relative easy and everyone one would love to have lovely special tags for their packages… My BFF, Pamela,  is the most amazing package wrapper /decorator… her packages look so amazing you don’t even want to open them… they are gift all on their own…so I can’t make to make up some special tags for her to add to her packages…I think she will really enjoy them. Since my idea of wrapping is usually just a bag I will make some for myself as well and kick up my bags a notch….

You know that these could also be tags to use on the front or even the inside of a card or actually as a card themselves… they don’t have to be holiday tags they could be birthday , get well, anniversary, etc…so just keep that in mind.

Now I am not sure this actually counts as EYE CANDY ..but I am child of a woman who was and incredible seamstress… as a child every year for christmas I got a lovely Madam Alexander doll. Now the dolls always came with an outfit ..maybe a bride doll or fancy evening dress …but my Mom would make me a special dress for christmas and she would  also make the same dress for my doll so we had matching outfits and she would also make other matching outfits for us both… as I grew older my mom made my first prom dress and several others along the way…so you can imagine that when I took home economy class in high school you would think I did well in the sewing section…NOPE…I  managed to cut out a dress with both sleeves on the same side of the dress… I should have gotten an F on the project but since no including myself could figure out how I did it I was given a D for creativity…lol… anyway sewing was never part of my crafting … however I recently saw a really cute table runner and I had bought some amazing material in Alaska ( thinking I’d have someone else sew it for me) so the pattern and people at the quilt store helped me figure it out… My WA BFF STEPHANIE said its easy… well she didn’t know my history…however this so called 10 minute pattern took me a week… lol. but I finished it today so I am so proud of myself and because Stephanie assured me I could do it… bought more material to make some more of them for christmas presents… so here it is…This fabric came from a wonderful QUILT STORE in SKAGWAY..and its called BATIK type fabric…

DAWN’S COOKIE CUTTER REINDEER CARD

We are moving right along from HALLOWEEN…which I hope was delightful for all of you… TO CHRISTMAS or various holidays…. I don’t really do much for Thanksgiving holidays due to fact that I am in transition…however, LAST weeks twisted gate fold card  just so excited me that I made up several and now they only need the stamping inside and then some type of embellishment on the outside.

more-twist-gate-fold-idea

(this first one above used the cookie cutter as a cookie… me I plan to use it as a reindeer.)

But because I plan to use them for the few Thanksgiving cards that I need… I found some cute readymade embellishments which are Thanksgiving themed…BUT…are ya ready for this… that cookie cutter punch makes a terrific reindeer and I really like it if she had only shown the gingerbread boy I would not have been very interested… but turning it upside down (repurposing) it to be a reindeer well that one got my attention…so picture the card above with a reindeer on the front rather than the gingerbread boy….

By now I am sure you have figured out that I bought the both the punch and the stamps but you can probably do without the stamps if you can draw just a little…. but remember my nome de plume is LAZY STAMPER…lol..

DAWN’S RUDOLPH CARDthis was just a basic card folded in half and then decorated..the whole thing was making the reindeer which in this case she is calling Rudolph and giving him a red nose… just too cute…but you can use him with any of the other cards we have made like putting him on the front of gift card /candy holder…or on the diagonal/twisted gate fold card.  So you decide if you can pass up this punch… I couldn’t cause I have no willpower.

EYE CANDY….Ok so last weekend I took a PASTE PAPER class with SALLY PENLEY..if you don’t have a clue what PASTE PAPER is then basically its like watercolor on paper then using just about anything you can think of to make marks on the paper while its still wet… however , you are needing something that is more opaque so paste paper is made up of wall paper paste with acrylic added…there are other kinds but this is what we were using … and it was such fun… as a calligrapher this paper can be use to write on depending on how busy a background it is or it can be used to make cards, booklets even  gift wrap if you are careful with the folding … Sally prefers to make her designs on ARCHES TEXT WOVE paper…this paper takes the paste well and for the most part holds up to most of the tools you might use to kinda scratch designs into the paste. Ok enough talk here are some photos I took of the class and the papers.. If you have an opportunity to take a PASTE PAPER CLASS I think you will really enjoy it and if you can take one with SALLY PENLEY well then I know you will have a great time…

well that should have gotten your creative juices going so now go make something… and most of all play…

ONE FINAL EYE CANDY…well I am not sure its really eye candy…while raking up the leaves from the last storms my hubby rescued a weathergram as seen below…he swears there was a squirrel holding it who told him if you ever want to see this again bring me the nuts…( we have run out )…lmao…good weathergram though..

LETTERS AND MORE

BUT FIRST.. I need to give credit to others for last weeks inspirations… the 4x4s were apparently the child of my friend BRENDA BROADBENT…AND then they were taught at a calligraphy gathering earlier this year by LINDA O’NEILL…I just stumbled on SANDEE FREEMAN’S and immediately ran with it… so mea culpa Brenda and Linda…but thanks for the inspiration….

HELLO AGAIN …yes I am busy with HALLOWEEN CARDS AND WHEN DAWN POSTED THIS DIAGONAL GATE FOLD..OR if you prefer SCS TWISTED GATE FOLD is the same card with printable directions….I did my halloween snoopy dance… this is just too cute and again like most of the cards it doesn’t have to be halloween… it can be whatever holiday or activity you want it to be… the secret is to score correctly and then I love that she actually has you cutting and scoring two cards at once then cutting them apart for the rest of the scoring again make some up and keep them on hand for quick bday or anniversary or whatever you need… yeah store them in your sheet protectors…. and print the first two pages and then go write in the score marks…

With your paper vertical with the 8 ¼ side at top score all the way down at 2 ¼ and then again at 5 ½ …then ROTATE YOUR PAPER to the 11 inch at top and cut in half at 5 ½ now you have two partial cards… then fold you gates and score each of them from the top left corner to bottom right and then fold them together to get your DIAGONAL GATE FOLD…the rest is just embellishment… lol

my favorite the halloween diagonal gate fold...

my favorite the halloween diagonal gate fold…

I think on both of them last two she cut down on how many layers she was adding i.e..the back panels don’t have designer paper on them …only the front diagonals… if you using a colored cards that correspond with your papers ..don’t think she need all the designer paper as for me it gets too busy…. play and have fun with this..

CREATIVE LETTERS… I found this alphabet on Pinterest…AND best I can tell its a print that you can buy from ETSY..however as I have found in the past I am not sure who AT ETSY you should go looking for… So I can’ t give it credit and I don’t think its hand lettered although I am going to suggest you try it…. especially if you scrapbook or do journaling…

If you are old enough you may remember that there was a monoline type alphabet that was called the AMEN alphabet ..and the reason for that was because each of those letters A, M, E, N, were written in capital form and the rest of the alphabet was written in lower case…This alphabet is credited as being an alphabet that SISTER CORITA KENT USED…however, I was not able to find a piece that she had done in this alphabet so I had to make one of my own… so here is a sample of the AMEN  ALPHABET and also a basic alphabet which you then can make your own decisions on how to kick it up a notch and make it more creative… reverse the letters write them upside down, or dangle them below or above your guide lines or write the in lower case form or at a weird angle…

MY AMEN ALPHABET

amen-alphabet

I SUGGEST that you practice what it is you are going to write before you put it on your card etc… its hard to remember to capitalize the A, M, E, N…AND you can see I wrote my exemplar without the use of guidelines and I did that because much of CORITA KENT’S work was done very free and it has a lot of life to it … Now the next one is based loosely on the quote below …

pinterest quote from Easy

pinterest quote from Easy

I do love this idea and the quote especially sounds good to me as my desk is always messy not sure its very creative but it is messy…I seem to have that down really well.

Here is my exemplar and yes I realize that on the P instead of both reversing and flipping it upside down…was a very bad idea… better to just reverse and if you flip it is should have been dropped below the line… again why i suggest that you spend time writing the quote or sentiment first and getting it the way you want BEFORE you put it on your cards… however, I am also a firm believer is showing you what NOT TO DO…LOL..so I don’t mind sharing  my mistakes…

kath's basic capital alphabet

kath’s basic capital alphabet for use with creative letters

Ok so one final HINT …these are not actually DISPLAY alphabets but they are not in my opinion going to work really well with a long quote or a long poem…ie no Shakespeare  Sonnets ….they are going to be more legible ( and that’s always a big thing for me) if you use them in short and sweet sentiments, quotes etc …a little tongue in cheek type thing …. creative would work well with the Bday card that you wrote HAPPY BIRTHDAY on the outside with the letters all wonky and then inside write THE EYES ARE THE FIRST TO GO… lol … my black humor …. ok you have spent enough time here …. go to your creative place and PLAY…

TINY VIGNETTES…IE monoline and watercolor

I just attended my annual FALL RETREAT with several other crafters and calligraphers… there were people making quilts…people watercoloring…drawing and using colored pencils in other words all kinds of crafts all together in one room sharing the creative energy that you get when you put a bunch of crafty people together… because I had just shared with you the ORNATE STLYE LETTERS... I thought you would also enjoy this. A fellow calligrapher and friend SANDEE FREEMAN was making these at her table while I was busy making the halloween cards I posted last week.  But right down to the wire to leave I discovered these and went crazy….they are just so cute and make a great inexpensive gift … these are her samples and she told me you can find the small 4×4 plastic frames from Walmart and they are around a dollar and you can even order them online in sets.

Sandee's mini vignettes with watercolor.

Sandee’s mini vignettes with watercolor.

my directions on how I did them….

USE THE GLAZE BLACK sakura gel pen (there are no lettering police so you don’t absolutely have to use the BLACK GLAZE pen but because it stays raised when dry and because its shiny it really makes the words stand out and shows off the watercolors.)

make a pencil line around the edges of a 4×4 square of water color paper

using the pencil lines tape the watercolor off so you can create a border

make wavy lines inside the border  either free hand or using a flexible curve…I use the curve with the pencil
then using the glaze black pen write a short quote inside the spaces of the lines..ie make letters fit spaces both tall and short.. then go back and trace he pencil lines with the black glaze pen before you water color but I goofed and was still able to do it after the watercolor…
Let it dry … doesn’t take long if you do multiple at a time you can be writing the next one…
once dry grab your watercolors and just play…splash color around inside the square and its ok if some white remains or fill it all in… don’t blend more then 3 colors or ya get mud…
gently remove tape and using a ruler again trace lines on the outside that create the boarder of the square…
TA dah you have lovely little vignette that makes a great gift …
Wal Mart sells lovely little black plastic frames that stand up for about 1$ or you can order them on line if you cant find them in store or no store close… they are just the bomb…

OF course a sharpie will work for the lines but the glaze is shiny and is slightly raised so it makes a better impression.

kath's samples

kath’s samples

ok the first think you might notice from my samples is that I have them taped to scrap paper cause I was in a hurry and it doesn’t matter… second I had no watercolor paper that  wasn’t pre cut and so I used what I had they are not 4 inch square more like 3 x 4 …but the 4 inch square is what will fit in the frames…this I will probably use on cards…i did warn you that I was going back to my roots with more lettering I will still link you to some unique cards but if you are addicted to DAWN or SCS you are going to need to go sign up to receive there weekly e mails yourself… as they are not going to be my primary focus.

So you can see from my incomplete ones that I taped them off so I had a nice even boarder then I drew the wavy lines also with pencil just incase I needed more …then I wrote the quite also in pencil then traced the quote , the lines BUT NOT THE BORDERS

then I watercolored the backgrounds…when dry I peeled off the tape and then using my ruler to make sure the lines were straight I traced my pencil border lines… ta dat finished..

this one isn’t quite finished as I want to use some red to color in the heart at the bottom… cause I think it will give it a bit of a pop and I will probably use both of these on bday cards…

birds and watercolor

birds and watercolor

I think I saw this on pinterest just watercolor a strip across the paper then I used die cut birds ..however there is a rubber stamp that is almost the same and it would work just as well…just let water color dry again cut some paper 3×4 and then start coloring… I put water down first and I was using these great palette of KOI watercolors from where else….Amazon. Love how juicy they are and how dark and vibrant the colors are against the black…

IMPRESS ARTS AND CRAFTS …has a stamp called BIRDS ON A WIRE..I am not sure whose brand it is …I have it of course but not here its in Fl.  but you can go on line and order it or the die that cuts them..

crows-on-a-wire

this is one I do have here…very similar but these guys are a little more friendly looking as they have more personality… this stamp is by ART GONE WILD…and I don’t know who is selling them but again go on line I am sure you can find it..art-gone-wild-crows

they will be even better for birthday as you can say YOUR BIRTHDAY IS SOMETHING TO CROW ABOUT….or whatever you can come up with.. even they are singing your song… crows sing..maybe not well but they do sing…

PENS, PAPER AND INK

GREETINGS…

The title for this blog is from my older business cards… I didn’t really have a business but I did teach a lot of lettering classes in various places and I made up my own business cards and that’s the phrase I used on them so here is some more info along that line…

I recently rewatched the movie JULIE AND JULIA…if you haven’t seen it its wonderful about a girl who decides to spend a year cooking all of Julia Childs recipes from the MASTERY OF FRENCH COOKING book… and in addition to cooking them all she is going to blog about them …. now the movie never says she does this daily , but we assume that…anyway I got to thinking about my blog and decided it was a very narrow focus and to be quite frank its a focus that I am growing weary of …. I love making cards but STAMPING UP has the market covered in demos on line of how to do these cards and mostly while I may share a tip or hint about them I am basically just referring you to one of their websites …. so I am in a position of wanting to do more with my CALLIGRAPHY… that was how I got started with the cards in the first place….so you may find that do the movie and my waning interest there may still be mentions of cards etc but also more about calligraphy and paper and inks etc…I hope I will not loose those that have been following but as Julie mentions in the movie she has no assurance that anyone is looking…she later finds that they are in fact but unlike Julie … I do know that I maybe have about 20 loyal fans but I rarely get comments so it feels like it is just going out there in the ether…and that’s ok too since I didn’t do this to make money and when I think about why I did I realize that I was spending a great deal of time in a location where I had very little reactions with other calligrapher’s or even other crafters.. Since Pens, Paper and Ink were original focus in 1984…I have decided to try to go back to that…. I am also going to try to share more EYE CANDY and possibly a less structured /scheduled posting … as I said I hope this will not frustrate you and that those of you that are not spam( I get a lot of that) will continue to hang in there and maybe you will even be motivated to make a comment now and then…

WOW does that sound like whining…sorry….I just thought you should know so you make your own decisions..then again maybe you are as bored with this format as I am…

THE MAKING OF PAPERI THINK you will find this video quite interesting… the first time I took a paper making class I was amazed at the fact that while I was told to bring 12 inch squares of cloth ( which I bought in lovely patterns and colors think it would be used to CREATE the paper) ha no way it was used to couch your paper i.e. lay your wet sheet on to dry … lmao… so funny…and because it was a big class they just had us pile it up in a stack so and they helped us use the first one we came to so I didn’t even DRY my sheets on my lovely cloth… really funny … that’s how it was done with small group of 20.

Every year for quite a while not sure how long there has been a WASHINGTON STATE CALLIGRAPHERS CONFERENCE…its open to all the WA groups and I am sure we would not deny any Oregon calligraphers either or even California…lol Its held at CAMP HUSTON which I believe is owned by the Luthern church AND its in GOLD BAR WA… its a beautiful setting and about 20-40 of my closest friends come to gather and share and play… for the last 3 or maybe 4 yrs we have extended it from friday to sunday to THURSDAY TO SUNDAY… so 3 whole nights and lots of time to share and play …sometimes there is a teaching moment and this year I am teaching a monoline class it will only be about 2 hours and since most of the attendees are calligraphers it is rather easy to teach… Monoline means just that only one line and it does not go from think to thin …there is no pen angle and the letters can be any size you want… the TOOLS are generally just a bullet tip ..ie ball point, pencil, colored pencil, gel pen, ruling pen etc… anything that writes basically but not with a chisel nib or even a pointed pen… you could use a pointed pen nib but you’d have to becareful not to allow it to make thick and thins… even a fountain pen is good .  I taught these a lot at local scrapbook stores because scrapbookers for the most part don’t want to do formal calligraphy or spend the time and practice it takes to achieve good letters.  But monolines were quick and relatively easy and gave a nice look to their page which maybe their own handwriting didn’t. It also provide a lot of variety …so basically I am teaching a type of typography which in fact is where a lot of my scripts come from… I am especially fond of ART DECO STYLE LETTERS as you can see from my exemplar below.

I don’t own this version but I did spend a lot of time creating it and making the exemplar so I don’t mind you sharing but share the blog please and if you teach this even for free somewhere make a smaller copy of mine to share and show and then do your own exemplar… its hard to teach someone else’s letters so do yourself a favor and do your own version based on  mine…I called mine ORNATE STYLE

kath's ORNATE STYLE EXEMPLAR

kath’s ORNATE STYLE EXEMPLAR

As you can see a lot of that style is from the unique idea of cross bars on letters and dots under a small  o  with all the other letters being larger…while my script is based on typography by TONY FORESTER..here is some original ART DECO letters by RENNIE MACKINTOSH

RENNIE MAC FONT

RENNIE MAC FONT

as you can see its very similar but he has also added dots with some of the other letters like M in capital letters and l and w in lowercase ..his lowercase letters also makes 3 crossbars instead of two but otherwise his caps and lower case look very similar… personally I love it… you can not be two quirky for me…. and don’t ya just love that capital Q and the lower case q … clever don’t ya think…. any way here are some letters to play with.  I’d love to see what you do with them make cards, weathergrams, banners posters, scrapbook pages whatever… just have fun…

I also promised you photos from my cruise to ALASKA…it was fabulous but I will have to post it separately this one is getting too long…

EYE AND EAR CANDY..Mike Rowe’s letter from his MOM.. This is a medium length video of Mike reading a letter from his mom regarding loosing her BIG BLUE BAG in the Walmart ( WALLY WORLD ) parking lot… I laughed so hard tears ran down my leg…. but for all us women you know just how awful that feeling of having left your purse or wallet or credit card somewhere can be…so this is a lighter look at him and I’d love to know how long after the chaos his mom wrote the letter…. hope I am sending you a smile when maybe you need it…

DOUBLE Z FOLD

DOUBLE Z FOLD

SHARP DRESSED CARD…. well maybe that ‘s not a term for cards but both of these are pretty cool … Dawn is still using the WILD RIDE set but hey they work well on the first design  and she does used flowers on the second design which is actually the same but just the second Z fold is larger.. I like it!!!! then on the third image… if you look closely she had a PICTURE ON THE RIGHT AND TREMENDOUS TIP:6a00d8341c09ea53ef01b7c87257f8970b-500wi

she talks about the fact that she will loose the cling stamps on her desktop when she is creating several of the same cards or even several using the same stamps… I do know that feeling and she says she has even lost them in the trash can …..aaarrrggghhh because I too have done that l learned a while ago to put my trash can several feet away from my desk…. so I kinda have to throw the trash…better to have trash on the floor that ya gotta pick up later then to loose a stamp in the bucket and not even know its there… anyway her tip is to purchase one of those inexpensive lucite frames for your photos and to flip it over and as shown and use that to stick your stamps while you are not using them …yes you could just put them away and get them out and put them away and get then out but hey would I do that ….no way…so this is great idea…she suggested dollar store so i think I will pick one up next time I go to grocery…. as its right next door…but they have them everywhere… I am going for the 5×7 but you can use any size you want…. THANK YOU DAWN…. worth the price of admission…

BEE SPINNER UPDATE

Just a quick note to tell you that I found those dots that make it so easy to make this card…

dots ...by Reflections

dots …by RECOLLECTIONS

I found them at Michaels, But they are probably also at Jo Ann’s…they are thicker than regular dots and they are round so they don’t need to be trimmed ..

ok that’s it not too exciting….and I could have added it to original blog but this way you will get a notice of it…enjoy…this is such a fun card.

Watercolor technique with Dena Rekow

GREETINGS ONE AND ALL…

Hi there I stumbled on this video with Dena and I liked the idea because I do like to create textures and images in the background  but I like them to be subtle and this is subtle at least in the video its very subtle in fact its so subtle the you almost can’t see it in the yellow but it does show up better in the blue.. DENA‘S WATERCOLOR TECHNIQUE

In addition I wanted to mention that this is messy and she comments on the but I have a friend that would have stopped the video right there and gone NO WAY….she will not try anything that gets her hands dirty…so my suggestion is rubber gloves if you have nice nails or are going somewhere where you don’t want your hands to look as if you have been digging in the dirt with them rubber gloves are a great option…also keeping a baby wipe handy will allow you to clean off your hands quickly but my friend doesn’t want it on there to begin with so gloves or use a par of tweezers to hold the piece of paper or make it larger and leave some white space to hold onto then trim it down when you are finished…just some other options..

RENA'S WATER IMAGE

RENA’S WATER IMAGE

This was the best I could get in the way of visual from the YouTube video..but the video does do a great job of explaining what and how to do this…however a couple of things…she is inking up plane smooth white paper…. she says it won’t work with water color paper and if in fact she didn’t try it on hot press  I think she is right as cold press water color paper has is own texture and if the image is a very fine line it won’t show up very with against the texture so smooth paper is probably best.

Also she is using stamp pads to get her ink not really water color although the die pads are water based inks but don’t try this with pigment ink pads as I really don’t think they will work however, to make sure I am going to try to use some pigment ink as well as some gelatos .. I do like the GELATOS and think they will work well but again the only way to be sure is to try…. so if you have something you want to try with this like if you want to use real watercolors… I suggest that you do use HOT PRESS watercolor paper WHICH you will most likely have to buy in a large sheet and cut up as it doesn’t really come in pads. Not sure you really want to know all of this but using actual water and you would need a bit to get the colors to blend together is more than likely going to eat the surface off the smooth card stock so w/c paper HOT PRESS would be best… the GELATOS don’t need water to move them around you can do it using you finger and baby wipe…in fact I think they blend easier with the baby wipe then with the water…

I ALSO think that the KROME COAT (slick shiny ) card stock with work with this technique and it may in fact even show up better… I am going test all of these and will show you some samples of each .

I did want you to know though that she does have a blog and so she may have given you some idea of the papers she use there but I was reading the comments on the video and she said there that she use the SU white card stock.

Here however, are my attempts and while I agreed subtle was my choice… I could not make this work period… except with the embossing which really didn’t work to remove ink just raised the images so you could see them better …. then finally after multiple attempts I got some real watercolors out and painted them on the Kromecoat (slick) paper and got a it to work just a little but they were words and you can’t really read them… frankly this we a bust for me…. but I don’t have stamping up paper nor their stamp pads so that may be the reason…please if you try this and it works will you please send me some samples vie e mail kathharney@gmail.com so that I can share them but I am done trying…. once I reach the frustration level …that’s it for me I am done… still the idea is good just can’t make it work with my supplies and I don’t want to spend the $$ to get SU paper and ink… i spend enough on their stamps…lol

w:c technique kh

The top is the piece I tried with wet embossing template and as I said all it seems to do is emboss…doesn’t remove any color….the strip at the bottom with my first attempt with ink and then spritz stamp and stamp and dry with embossing gun… and as you can see nada, zip , nothing…. a total bust..

kromecoat paper

kromecoat paper

again the to is with same ink and same stamp and I got nothing….. the bottom ( red) was done with water colors on the KROMECOAT paper and then wet the stamp and then stamp and dry with embossing gun… that worked a little… again probably just a little too subtle for my taste…. ok guys that’s it  from her…. check out her video and then you can  also go to her web site and get more info….

EYE CANDY…THE PRESENTthis is a short award winning video the note I saw of FB said that as soon as it was screened the people/person responsible for creating it was offered a job with DISNEY/PIXAR…as with many things on FB not sure if its true but it the animation is fabulous and the story while short is very cute… and in addition I saw another post about a little girl receiving a doll that was created just for her…its along the same lines as she had lost one leg and the doll while it looked like any other doll had one human type leg and one prosthetic…which also seemed to make her quite happy…

anyway enjoy and AS ALWAYS THANKS FOR STOPPIN BY...wire headed cyber toad aka kath.

DAWN’S TRIPLE TIER SLIDER CARD

OK we had terrible wind storm( back when I was writing this ) and I had no power for a day and ½ so I am behind… but all is well and we are up and running again…and I skipped over this one just cause at first glance I thought it looked too complicated..then later running on battery I watched the video and saw that while slightly complicated she made it easy with the video…and besides you know I love cards that are interactive and apparently so does she…I just love her giggle…6a00d8341c09ea53ef01b8d14b52b5970c-250wiso do watch it..I promise its easier than it looks…

DAWN’S TRIPLE TIER SLIDER CARD

I didn’t have any of those stamps but you can make up your on background stamps and I did like the idea that all of the background was the same design and the same color…I think this really works best to tie the card together…then I have so many birthday stamps ( only out numbered but the Halloween stamps…lol) that I thought I try first a birthday and then a HALLOWEEN ONE.. of course its coming….

HUGE HINT..She does show you all of this but its not on the page with the cutting measurements…so I find that its helpful to have all the pieces on there I am sure she just forgot…. When you go to her video …you are going to see that on the printed info she didn’t give you the sizes of the base cards for the slider part…so in her case the large base is basic black cut at 4 ½ x 11 5/8  scored at 3 7/8 from the end then fold the other end in to meet that score line… then follow the video

then the medium slide part is cut at 3 1/8 x 10 ¼ and scored at 3 3/8 from one end and then again fold the other end in to meet the first score line…

LASTLY the slider mechanism itself you need to cut 2 at ½ inch x 2 ½ …

Ok NOW you have all the measurements and you are good to go with cutting and assembly of the slider card….Ha… sometimes I am just crazy… she does have all of these measurements on her sheet but they are in the reverse order and I didn’t pick up on that….so now you have two times…. and

As I mentioned it is difficult or maybe complicated is the word …you are not going to want to do 50 of them at one time but once you have the pieces cut and the slits cut …its pretty quick to assemble…. Hope my tip was helpful and that you will enjoy trying this card….it took me well over an hour to make the first one and i had to go back and look at video at least twice but the second one only took about ½ hour so it does get easier… lol..and if you didn’t use pattern paper it would be easier too as some of my patterns had to be recut cause they were running the wrong direction… oh well it was fun and they both look great I think as I have two 4th birthdays….
