I hope you are not suffering from a chocolate hangover…lol…

I am posting this link because it will link you to all of the CARD SKETCHES or basics that Dawn has posted so far… this is new this year the sketches, and I think its a great idea since it basically just gives you a layout or format to work with you and you pick and choose your own stamps for use with that format.  She usually gives you an actually card that she made in that format as well… DAWN’S SKETCHES..

Then I also wanted to share some of the Pinterest VALENTINES …these are also kinda like sketches at they are just there to give you ideas  and layouts that may work for some of the stamps you may have… so enjoy

the above card is using stamping up dies the swirly circles , the love is a die also from them but there is a similar one that is a fishers punch.. and the heart is probably a punch but could be die also from stamping up..I like it except for cutting the love out of teal or blue paper… it would have been better if they used black…to go with the cord  and the black heart

stamping up owls punch

this is also stamping up ..owls punch a die cut circle and the leaves on a branch is also a stamping up die ..I think

This one is I think out of lavender paper but it photographs as if it was grey…I probably would have used red and white cord and maybe a red and white polkadot heart…

I love kraft card stock and the embossing template of small heart on only one side of the paper is very cute as is the small embossed kraft heart… making a heart out of the checkerboard and using a strip of the paper to make like a ribbon also very nice… I am not however fond of pink… but on the whole the card works…

I have done these before and I do like doing them but you do need to start way ahead like in the middle of january for me…lol… basically you just trace a heart and then using an awl of some sort but not too big a whole punch all around the heart shape .erase your pencil lines and the just stick randomly back and forth across the heart or you can make it more uniform and go from left to right …this is most impressive I think… start by taping the one of the cord to the back of the card panel… when finished you would layer this on the front or the inside of your card…

this is that same embossing template..with tiny hearts then layered with red behind each one… very stunning and while simple it looks fantastic and the two tiny cut out hearts at the bottom ….perfect…

so save this post so that you have it to look at for next year…BUT… hearts are not just for VALENTINES… you could use any one of these to say HEARTFELT wishes for HAPPY BIRTHDAY ETC… just remember it doesn’t have to be exactly like the picture…make it your own …use what you have and most of all have fun…

EYE CANDY….ICE SCULPTURES a friend of mine in WA CAROLE CROSE…sent me these images …probably because she knows that I don’t like the heat in FL and it has been warming up way too much lately so looking at these besides being eye candy they do help to make me feel cooler…enjoy

SCS SNOWMAN PUNCH BOARD TREAT HOLDER….this is just too cute…I am working away on my 10 that I need for New Years eve party….

OMG …you know I love snow and this little snowman is just adorable and so easy…I plan to use it or my placard  at my New Years eve dinner…. I will need 10 of them but they are just too cute…

SCS snowman treat holder by

SCS PUNCHBOARD SNOWMAN..YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE THIS guy and I am even going to use him for my JANUARY AND FEBUARY birthdays…since they are all back where there will be snow…and I have a snowflake punch to use for the name tag for New Years and I can stamp happy birthday on it for the birthday ones ……HINT: I will try to use ribbon for his scarf as I don’ have good luck with Washi tape and especially twisting it and then getting it to stick… but glue dots will work just fine for ribbon...HINT: I think I WILL USE  this for New Years I will also use use a small circle and the printer to put 2018 on it ….. pretty clever huh…..some days the brain does work better than others…lol that instead of a flower for on his hat…

I am also going to probably delete the arms as I don’t have anywhere to get the branches…condo here and they frown on you cutting the plants …lol,…so I will just use a glue dot to adhere the punched out snowflakes with the names on them…for the party

I may also use the end of an eraser on a pencil to make the buttons on the front of the snowman since I don’t have green buttons… to glue on…

Ok this is short but there is not much too it… while I will use some ghirdelli chocolates for the insert on some of the snowmen … for the guys..I think I will insert the mini snickers bars …just so its not so girly…

You could also add a gift card to each on and because it wouldn’t stay on its own you can use a glue dot on the back of it and then they can just take pull it out and remove the dot… they are not that permanent on something like a gift card….well guess thats all for now….

HAVE A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR... last post before 2018.. see ya next year…AS ALWAYS THANKS FOR STOPPIN BY…wire headed cyber toad …AKA kath

TICK TOCK,TICK TOCK….YEP the clock continues to click on getting your cards together to and ready to mail…but least you feel that you won’t make it ….let me just say that late cards are always accepted and you can change it to a NEW YEAR’S CARD and buy yourself an extra week…lol

SCS LAYERED WINDOW CARD this is an interesting little card…and while they show it standing up…that will only happen if you have either one of those alligator clips on a base or if you send along a small plastic photo stand for it go it… but it is unique and unique is good.. I am pretty sure that I have posted about this before but its been awhile so thought I would do it again… and perhaps use a different die maybe just a plain circle…

Layered window

Open layered window

I am pretty sure that we have done this before but it is one my favorites… and don’t think that you have to do those side panels with the same stamp you can use word stamps or you can use the various decorator papers you might have also… and again the shape in the center could be round , or heart , square or even just plane round… and as I have suggested so many times… cut some of the bases and fold them so that they are ready to go they all you need to do is add your panels and the center design… I do suggest that you stamp first and cut second on those so that you make sure you get the images that you want where you want them …..this is also one of those image and added words will work so well with the stamping platform that I gave you links to last week…I am not saying you have to have it but it does make laying out a multiple image layout much easier…

just in case you missed it last week TIM HOLTZ STAMPING PLATFORM again…my good friend and best stamping buddy JANIS BLEVINS ..shared these with me and now I am sharing it with you….

In any a case hope you enjoy this who knows maybe it will be your 2017 christmas or valentine card..

I am keeping this short cause I am sure we both have lots to do…lol….AS ALWAYS THANKS FOR STOPPIN BY…wire headed cyber toad aka kath

YES, we are in that frantic race towards christmas…and if ever time really does fly its between THANKSGIVING AND CHRISTMAS….There just seems to be so much to do and never enough time… I have taken to keeping paper and pen next to my bed so that when brain supplies wonderful ideas I write them down as next morning I know I won’t remember what I thought up… and sometimes that’s a good think NOT ALL LATE NIGHT IDEAS are good ones…lol

When it comes to SHADOW BOXES there are so many different ways to make them.. almost all of them will like flat for mailing depending on how dimensional you make the inside… it can be simple or complex. I have shown you some of the possible ways in a previous post…SHADOWBOX/3D these are a that are made using punches and the card is a typical folded card.  So you have a front and and inside where the shadow part is located.. Below is one of my favorites and this one uses a DIE which is currently on sale at Dawn’s for ½ price…what a deal… plus I love this image…

Ok then there is a version where the card stands up on its own and then it folds flat with a cut out in the center…DAWN’S STANDING SHADOWBOX/MINE this is a previous post from back in 2015… told you there were a lot of these…lol… but I like this on a lot too as it again fits in an A2 ENVELOPE and is mailable without extra postage unless your embellishments are really dimensional and not paper… HINT:  IF THERE IS A BUMP ADD EXTRA POSTAGE..

shadowbox my version

MY shadow box using Dawn’s pattern..

DAWN’S RECENT SHADOWBOX CARD ..this is a lovely card and because she has worked to make it really dimensional… you should watch the video to see that she has glued pieces both inside the circle and on the outside thus giving it more dimension.  This one also is made using the the two pieces on the side to pull out so that the card sorta unfolds and it will at that point stand up by itself unless you have too many heavy embelllisments on it….remember less is more…. and also to use foam tape on at least some of the embellishments…here are her two examples .

Dawn’s xmas shadowbox

Personally I like this one best because I think the images of trees and houses in snow with blue big round and just small amounts of sliver are very christmasy…however, that said I am not a fan of the stamping up glimmer paper….I just think its too much I prefer a softer effect like using the wink of Stella…

Dawn’s xmas shadow box

I don’t like this one as much because I feel the red doesn’t go with the village nor the trees…I gues if I was going to use red I would think about using a Santa or christmas packages or reindeer or a wreath although for wreath I would probably use green..anyway this looks nice I just don’t find it as appealing as the blue one…. or a green one…

Now here is one more and this one is from an older post by SPLIT COAST STAMPERS …I am not giving you the link but you can just type it into the search box on thier web site and it will come up… its much more involved as it uses cuts etc to create a more box like farme around your background image and there is very little room to adhere anything to the frame but still some make like it…

SCS shadowbox like a photo frame..

STAMPING PLATFORMSif you have been hearing about them and don’t know what they are or how they work… here are two links that will help you decide… I do really like the  the TIM HOLTZ one because it does let you use it with either the rubber type stamps from SU or the clear ones ….there are a couple of techniques shown also which are great …re stamping with out worry about lining it up.. adding extra colors… etc… anyway check them both out..TIM HOLTZ video even if you don’t think you want one of these you will enjoy seeing how they are used…

AS ALWAYS THANKS FOR STOPPING BY…wire headed cyber toad..aka kath

HELLO HEH, well that’s as good as I can do for making a it sound like I am Canadian…oh well ….by the time you get this I will either be in Canada or on my way back…. in any case you know that my grandkids would roll thier eyes if I gave them anything for Christmas BESIDES A GIFT CARD….one of these days I am going to give them each socks and not just any socks but Christmas socks just to see the look on thier so having this cute little box to put it in seemed like a really good idea….

Dawn’s gift card box

HINT 1……It is easier than it may look at first glance and one tip I will tell you as some of us may not be using as much paper as others or maybe you’d just like to skip a step… what ever you decide to use as the inside card holder part of the box you don’t have add designer paper if you use a designer type paper for the inside…of course it needs to be cardstock rather than text weight paper or it won’t hold the card..but if you have duplex paper which mostly only comes in 12 x 12 sheets you can get two boxes out of a sheet and you  wont have to stress over what coordinates with the out side because it will be what is on the opposite side of your duplex card stock…..did that make sense…well anyway that’s what I am suggesting….in the end no one is going to know that you skipped the layering step so why not…..I am all about quick and easy …. right…

HINT 2….my second hint is that you can also glue a small loop of ribbon on to a corner of the box and hang it from a branch in your Christmas tree…just cut about a 2 inch piece of small flat ribbon and fold it into t a loop then stick it down I under the tape of the flap on the TOP right corner so that the box will stay closed and yet be able to hang… this is just a thought ….if your box isn’t staying closed you can alway tie it with a piece of the same ribbon and then hang it.   My Dad always liked to hang presents, envelopes, tiny boxes etc isn’t the Christmas tree and make us hunt for them even after we were adults… just making christmas more fun and more interactive.

Hint 3 …pretty sure there also room for a small candy cane inside of the box as well or at the least a peppermint… If you have small guys that you are giving too…you may not want to use a card because they are too young to use one so you can also fold money into a heart and then tuck it into the slot for the card…you will have to push it down into slot a bit more so that the lid on the box will fold close but still it would be cute or even just fold the money in an accordion and have just flap of it sticking up thru the slit and then can pull it out like a tissue…

HINT 4….again depending on the age…you might be giving them a special time with you like taking them to zoo or to lunch , tea, or even a sleep over or trip to beach …all of that can be written on a strip of paper no wider than the gift card so about 3 inches and then again accordion fold or if its long roll it up and and just a have flap maybe with the word pull written on it sticking out of slit ….

So think that is enough for this little box…AS ALWAYS THANKS FOR STOPPIN BY..wire headed cyber toad…aka kath

EYE CANDY….since we have been on a paper art journey…PAPER WIGS none of this is in English but you can look at the incredible wigs made completely out of paper ..still I wonder how heavy some of them must be… enjoy..

PS due to my Mom’s status at not being back in Fort Myers our trip to Halifax was canceled… so no photos and I will stop the Canadian

Well I have good news and bad news…. the GOOD NEWS is my Mom is finally back at her residence in FT MYERS… so no more trips to Sarasota except for fun…lol. THE BAD NEWS is that due not being put on antibiotics weeks ..maybe even months ago her cough got so bad that had a fever last sunday of 101…FINALLY they gave her the antibiotics..its a long story why but she is very sad shape…and why not she has been suffering with this for over 6 wks and if they had given her the antibiotics to begin with it would have been gone in just a few days… ok know you didn’t come for this so I will move on…

dawn’s wallet for gift cards

DAWN’S GIFT CARD WALLET ..AS DAWN WOULD SAY THIS IS SO “stinkin Cute” seriously it is … and the great part is that its in plenty time for Christmas…she also tells you that it has so many pockets you won’t believe it…. so you can put gift cards or photos, or notes or just about anything you might want into it and give it ….and it doesn’t have to be Christmas…if  you want to give it as a BIRTHDAY well try using a balloon on the front using  either a die, a punch or fussy cut one out…. its just the cutest card and a very simple fold….

Dawn’s wallets

AS you can see she did one with just the word friend but this could also be a GET WELL, THINKING OF YOU, OR BIRTHDAY OR EVEN JUST BECAUSE …and note the you can also make the front of the card run either vertical or horizontal…

She is using 12 x 12 designer paper..Which means that is also duplex paper…and its gonna be kinda hard to fold… so you will need your embossing folder… you can use lighter weight text paper that in most cases will not be duplex …it just means that what little of the card shows inside will most likely be white or the same color as your outside…. either way due to the number of folds it will be sturdy enough especially if you are adding a gift card if you are adding photos you might want to add a slim piece card stock into the pocket that you put the photo so it doesn’t get bent…and due to the bows which like cause it makes look like a gift…you will have to add additional postage …STILL I think this is worth it…

HINT: regarding the Ribbon…. I would not rely on jus the embellishment on the front holding it in place….I would use a few glue dots on both the front and the back or the wallet and attach the ribbon with them and then also use the embellishment on the front to keep tin place…..

EYE CANDY..this is especially for all my friends and family in WASHINGTON...RAINWORKS is a brief YOU TUBE video of a process by which you  can letter on cement and it will only show up if its wet…. I love it…nothing could be more fun that wandering around Seattle in the stuff we call rain and finding these wonderful works of art and there are several other videos so you can see how and what he uses to make these and they don’t have to happen in Washington it rains everywhere sometime…lol…

Think I may have posted this before if you just type rainworks on You Tube it will come up several more …. ENJOY MY FRIENDS… and letter on…

IF YOU ARE LIKE ME….the countdown has begun…seems like the time between Halloween and Christmas gets shorter every year… and this year especially as I was away for 14 days right before THANKSGIVING…aaarrrggghhhh. BUT I have a friend who says that the more projects you have the longer you will live cause you can’t die till you get them all done…in that’s case I am going to be one OLD LADY…lol

Another sponged background and the pop out part.

A Christmas version of this same card but it could be a birthday too

this card is simple and cute and if you need something quickly then you can use just decorator/designer paper for the inside panels and then stamp your message or write your message … or photos or die cuts or punches to decorate your inside panels and truthfully you don’t have to have every panel decorated….sometimes less is more…

This is again one of those types of cards where you can prepare the BASE card with the cut out ahead of time and then also cut and score the inside accordion so that you have it ready to put together for this last minute cards you forgot to make…lol… I swear if it was for “LAST MINUTE” I’d never get anything done…

I also think this would make a really good birthday card with some balloons on the outside pop out panel and then maybe one or two on the inside panel…or just cut some small squares or rectangles to look like mini packages inside ….also one of my favorite sentiments for the birthday card comes from my friend TORY BROKENSHIRE…its CYH..which stands for CONSIDER YOURSELF HUGGED..I just love that and I am a huge hugger…

OH and there won’t be a travel log coming due to circumstances beyond our control we will not be going to HALIFAX as this time.. ☹️😬 I am disappointed but I am sure we do it another time

EYE CANDY….AMAZING LEAF ARTYOU wont believe the wonderful things they carve out of these leaves…check it out..

IN APRIL of 2016 I posted DAWN’S VIDEO LINK to this little card… I had posted it before that and The pattern that I am sharing here actually came several years ago from Impress Rubber Stamps when they still had a store in BELLEVUE Square….They gave away the pattern for free….and as you can see its incredibly simple but as I said its good for so many ideas…and this time I am also letting you know that it works as a mini desk calendar where it can stand on someones desk or counter with one of this two little mini page a month calendars…

mini calendars from IMPRESS RUBBER STAMPS top one is about 1 ½ in x ¾ inches square and the bottom one is like about 3 ” x  1 ½ inches… and now they found on my request the older version which was about 1 ½ ”  SQUARE…. I always love the little square ones but they kinda disappeared and so when I asked they come up with them so I think you can get them there.

So decorate your standing corner and then add your little calendar…you can decorate with embellishments , punched or die cut images or even a favorite photo…or one my favorites is to use canceled postage stamps…when I get cool postage in the mail I save it to make my cards /calendars etc…you can soak them off the paper even the newer sticky ones or just use them like a collage..or you can just make this a card as Dawn has done..

I know there is not much to this but think you will enjoy making these and IMPRESS CARDS AND CRAFTS does sell the tiny calendars and this year they also have some that are about 1 1/2 inch square.

This is short but I am heading to HALIFAX soon and I wanted to get one more blog lined up before I left…I hope to create some travel blogs and especially with photos of the Bay of FUNDI…which can have a 30 ft tide….yikes what fun…a 30ft tide in Florida would cover coast to coast underwater….I listen to lots of books on AUDIBLE and just in case you have a any interest in tides …AUDIBLE has a book called TIDES ….that is really interesting…it starts by talking about FUNDI and the thousands of SANDPIPERS that swoop in to feed on the muck when the tide is out….I hope to get photos of that and share them with you but while its not a book I might have read ….listening to it was fantastic. It’s TIDES..THE SECRET SCIENCE OF THE OCEAN..AND some other books I highly recommend are THE BOYS IN THE BOAT ..About the 1936 Olympics and the rowing team from university of WA….again fantastic story…..and JOYLAND by STEPHAN KING…nope not horror at all its actually a love story/coming of age and the narrator is fantastic…ahhh the english major in me is coming out… I will quit for now… but how about some

EYE CANDY….this is a short technique on how to create water color background for stamping or lettering… I love this and while it looks messy my suggestion is to tape your paper to a piece of Masonite or FOAMCOR board and then work over a plastic tablecloth or near your sink…this made me think of my making mud pies days.. sometimes we just need to be a big messy….Michael’s sells the hand held small spritz bottle for about 4.99 and its a great one as it has a trigger… some control of the amount of water…

This card will work best if you have not too heavy card stock will also work a duplex type of card stock but then if you want to put a message inside either of the openings you may need to layer a solid piece of card stock so that you can stamp or write one it. I do like the fact that it opens twice any little twist  on a card is positive if creates a smile on the person who receives it.  I also like that its pretty simple and that you only have to measure each triangle and score at the 5 inch mark to make it work…Now it is probably going to be a bit bulky to mail so you may need a slightly larger envelope and also you will probably need extra postage. Still I think its worth the effort…. and I also like the fact that it has a belly band to hold it closed and that you decorate the belly band to give the front of our card a nice look. So here is Dawn’s and she had duplex paper that was solid on one side and printed on the other but because it was dark she still need to put a layer inside to stamp/write on.

Dbl gate fold by Dawn

So give this one a try and in fact you can fold some ahead of time and then have them available to decorate and mail.

same fold just different ….sent this to my BFF who has been suffering some annoying health issues…

GREETINGS one and all….

Well  its getting to be that time of year when you are wanting to send treats to friends and family , teachers, hair dressers etc…so this is slight variation to other gift card holders and hey you can never have too many card ideas with POCKETS….right ….

Dawn’s gift card folder

Dawn’s gift card folder

DAWN’S GIFT CARD HOLDER so after you look at the video… here are a few hints that you may find helpful….HINT 1…..paper is cut  5 ½ x 12. And she is using duplex paper that means decorated on both sides…however she then shows you how to cover up the inside design as it is really too busy …so just wanted you to know that because at least where I am I only know two stores that sell a selection of duplex paper …you don’t have to use duplex paper…you can do with with 12 x 12 paper that is solid color on both sides or paper that is designer on one side and white on the back side….

HINT 2…This really ties into HINT 1 …I have found that many times the solid color on both sides paper is not cut with the grain and when you go to fold it CRACKS…sometimes it cuts when you are trying to score it so my suggestion is to a) score carefully and b) do score before you fold… that triangle…as it may not fold neatly if it isn’t either scored or folded and pressed with bone fold…it doesn’t happen all the time but its always a surprise when it does happen.

My next suggestion is othe ways of using this card….you can slip a hand Made coupon in the pocket inviting the person to lunch , a party , or maybe write a encouraging word on separate paper, share a business card or even a photo…this would be a perfect idea for sharing a photo of a new baby in the family , human or new pet even…also it could be a we’ ve moved card with new address inside… or if you have someone who has a hard time writing you send them some address labels for their family and friends…or print up some special return address labels to give as a gift..the small strips of post it notes to use as markers etc.. Lots of things to fill the pocket..

I ALSO WANT TO SUGGEST that you follow DAWN’S hint about trimming off just a smidge of the flap of the card…especially if your card stock is rather thick it will make it fold much nicer…

EYE CANDY..This week I want to share a site that is a DIY on painting rocks which seems to be a craze again and these are showing you how to paint PUMPKIN ROCKS.. they are so cute I may have to go out and round up some of my hubby’s rocks and paint them before he finds them missing…..TTFN…for you non TIGGER fans that TA TA FOR NOW..

ok think that is it for this blog AS ALWAYS THANKS FOR STOPPIN BY…wire headed cyber toad…..aka kath..
