DAY FOUR YELLOWSTONE ROOSEVELT ENTRANCE

TIME FLIES WHEN YOU’RE HAVIN FUN

Yes , I am 2 days behind but dang I am havin fun.  The drive to GARDINER was uneventful but we did take a quick detour through BUTTE…the town is know for is mining copper, mostly but also some lead.Elk walking the streets of GARDINER Mt. Each evening…pretty cool….

Backside of Roosevelt entrance due to sun shining on the front.. but I do have the front…

See told you I had it…lol

Bison herd settling down for the nigh along the fire hole river.

The Hamilton group was the original concession for all of Yellowstone for quite awhile.

Eagle eating along the river…I have never seen this before and couldn’t believe how big he was.

Dragon’s mouth fumerole…stinky too.

The back side of the Original INN AT OLD FAITHFUL…..note  the widows walk along the top when the park was in the about the 40’s they would allow visitors that were staying at the Inn to go up to the top and they had a dump off the to the left and bears came there to eat at night and they would shine lights on the dump so the visitors could see the bears this was later discontinued due the fact that it was actually harmful to allow the bears to root in the garbage.  Now the Inn is too fragile and no one but employees are allowed up there for mostly repairs.

Resting near the Inn.

Grand PRISMATIC POOL. Swiped this off the internet because you can only see it like this from the air.. you can walk all around it but you can’t appreciate the color because you can’t get up high enough to look down on it.. also no drones allowed in the park

CASTLE GYSER going off in the distance. We are waiting for Old Faithful…

And it begins…but I didn’t get a good photo of it all the way up due to it being on the video and its too big to post here this 40’s poster will have to do… sorry

Another one of my favorites is this poster of the Yellow bus….they were there a long time ago and they brought them back a few years ago but like so many things COVID caused them seriious problems due to only a few on the bus due to social distancing…so it only ran a few times and they are not sure if or when they will start them again. ….so sad…

Raven’s are everywhere and I just love them but I won’t bore you with how many photos of them I have taken…

.This is the most impressive place… and the color dazzles the eyes… I think because it is not as big as the GRAND CANYON that it is actually more impressive because you can appreciate the size and the color better.

The Lower falls of the canyon and if you look close you can see that you can walk right out to the edge to look over ….my favorite place….when I was about 9 or 10 my folks took us here and we were actually able to watch them dynamite the area to build the ledge out to the edge… my dad had a two way radio in the car and we had to turn it off as it was a possible problem for them with the dynamite. So many memories.

Ok Yall isn’t arm chair travel fun..

Thanks for stoppin by…old traveling shoes…aka kath

DAY 2…. SPOKANE TO MISSOULA….

Greetings and Salutations….

This is day two and while I have not done much but ride in the car….I am incredibly sleepy, however I have had less alcohol tonight so we can hope that I will do a better job of editing…the real problem is my glasses don’t work…lol so I really can’t see the screen that well … still it was a lovely day and I do have a few fun things for you…..

I think I may have told you that we spent some time in Spokane last year ( which SIRI pronounces SPO CANE….LMAO) and when I was here I found a great art supply store and because one can never have too many art supplies my sweet baboo took me back over to it this am before we left town… this is the outside of the art building… I like to pretend that its me… making art..lol

Shortly after leaving the city of SPOKANE you find yourself approaching Coeur d’ Alene…( pronounced Cour de lain). But we are not French…lol. It’s a huge lake and very beautiful to drive along..

Then we come to more  images of the variety of landscapes that are this part of Eastern Washington.  It’s just lovely , however , I now know why my sister and brother in law do not drive on the freeways very often but tend to take the back roads….It’s very hard to take good photos when you are flying by the scenes at 70 miles an hour and that is the speed limit and just when you think you have the photo lined up a huge truck goes wizzing by… It’s fun but also frustrating….. you just can’t yell STOP when your hubby is driving 70 miles and hour… He’s good but that’s a no no…

Amazing bald rock just pops up out of no where trees all around then suddenly its bare…and smooth

Or rough and craggy

one of my favorite parts today was the area around Kellog I think where there is and Gondola and guess they are getting it ready for ski season.. in any case this poor man was having to climb STRAIGHT up with so much crud hanging off of him I wanted to suggest he get a cherry picker…

The climber with all the STUFF.. who knows what just hanging off of him..

I had to put this in as it just cracked me up…listed as a historical marker…

More lovely trees these are pines and they are just so crisp and very tall.

More bare rock that just doesn’t look like it belongs there..

A brief bathroom stop at Mickey D’s and an incredibly large bug ( nope don’t know what kind and good that he was on the outside not the inside…

This is the inside of what can only be referred to as a sh—t shop full of souvenirs…well that’s what they call them but this one also had $50,000 dollars worth of silver dollars hanging on the walls and over head of their bar….it was just a hoot.. no they did not give out any or even have any to purchase as souvenirs..lol but it was fulll of stuff and I did get a couple of postcards.

And look a wee bit of fall ya’ll ( that’s for my Southern friends who haven’t see fall in years)

This is my favorite image of the day…. and we were going much slower so I was able after the 3 or 4 one we saw to capture it… I think it means rock and roll truck…lmao…

I am afraid that this post is rather boring and some of you might not come back… but if you have ever wanted Julie and Julia ( movie) Julie decides she is going to cook all of JULIA’s recipes and then blog about each night…. I loved that movie but now I also know why she found it so hard to both do the cooking and then blog till the wee hours… If you haven’t seen it ,rent it…its worth your time… and perhaps you will have more sympathy for me and continue to stay with me… tomorrow is GARDINER and the northern entrance to Yellowstone and if we are luck some of the elk will be lying around the Ranger station and we of course get to see Mammoth hot spring…so hang in there the photos will get better I promise…

Oh and BTW …. I have hired a proofreader so any mistakes with this post are due to Mr HARNEY.. LOL

SO TTFN  ( that’s TA TA FOR NOW ) for all you Tigger fans… ( I decided that the blog need a new sign off) ole traveling shoes  IN MISSOULA MT……aka kath

MY FAVORITE THINGS.

OH MY GOODNESS….I have some things to share and also a card link.. one of the first things I want to share is about the GEMINI JR.  I bought this about a year or so ago and liked it so much and if you don’t know its an electric version of the BIG SHOT… not made by same people but it is available at AMAZON…( LETS all vote Jeff Bezos to restart our economy…) it cuts dies of all types and it will also emboss using the regular embossing templates as well as the 3D templates which emboss deeper…( ie don’t use thin card stock with them or you will probably end up breaking the paper). Frankly I got a chance to try one of the Gemini machines at a stamp store and was very impressed..mostly due to fact that I have some arthritis and no way to predict where it will pop up next but I was tired of cranking my way thru die cuts and embossing … less embossing than die cuts which is what I want to tell you about… the Gemini works so well and I have the die cutting down pat… I know the layers and how to put it together and to turn the clear cutting plates so that they don’t warp so badly just flip them.  BUT AS I SAID I DON’T EMBOSS much that said I recently bought a 3 D template of cob webs for my all time favorite cards HALLOWEEN so I decided the other day to emboss it using the GEMINI JR…( smaller version the big one is way too big) so I looked up in my directions of layers and read it twice then put them together and turned on the machine and inserted the sandwich of layers …it started in and then I could tell it was stuck so I tried to push it a little to get it going having never used a 3D plate before I thought it would go but no… it wouldn’t and suddenly I panicked and tried to pull the sandwich back out… not working… so turned it off and called my hubby thinking I’d make him hold the machine and I’d pull and it would come out….well that didn’t work either so he turned it off AGAIN and did what I almost never do…got on line and read instructions…..with me kibitzing in the background that it wouldn’t work….but he said …they said to turn it on and hold down the reverse button ( which I had tried to no avail) for 10 seconds… i hadn’t done the 10 seconds…so we gave it a try and BINGO ..it promptly reversed the plates and pushed them back out to me… turns out that I had left in the frosted plate that you DO USE with the die cuts and that of course made the sandwich too thick…so I bravely relayed the sandwich without that frosted sheet and it worked perfectly…..so I just want you all to know that if you are like me and tired of cranking the BIG SHOT…then you might want to give the GEMINI JR a try there are other electric ones out there but I have liked this one very much and it does cut through rather heavy paper and even cuts through a couple  sheets of about 60 lb card stock.. and my shoulders don’t get tired and neither do my hands…I am just sharing this for your interest not because I get a commission for selling them… lol…and if you are new to all of this you might find that cost of BIG SHOT or ever the stamping up one is about the same as this electric one… and it will cut most size dies… anyway I love it.

Now next I want to share some pens my Epistolary friend in Oklahoma shared with me months ago so not sure if you will find them but she and I are great DOLLAR TREE shoppers… not Dollar General nor Dollar Family etc…only DOLLAR TREE actually has everything at $1.00….these pens are so cool… they actually have two tips coming out the end so you get dual letters or lines with them and in dual colors.  I had to go to 3 different DOLLAR TREE’S to find them but I do like them and they came in set as you see but also another set with two different colors… and at $1 of course I had to buy both sets… I only scanned this set so you will have to go hunting but you just might find them.

Now more info …I tried to scan this and it was too blurry so I took photo with my iPhone and tried to drag and drop it into the blog…but apparently with this newest update on IPHONE..they have made the photos no longer JPEG BUT NOW SOMETHING CALLED HEIC… it makes for a better and maybe takes up less space BUT IT is not possible to put it into blog… that blew me away…. in fact I am going to have a online discussion with apple soon and I plan to tell them that STEVE IS PISSED… some of the changes they have been making with these updates are just not necessary or at least don’t seem necessary … I am sure they have some reason but often it seems like they are just MESSIN WITH US… and this folks is from and all APPLE girl have been for long time and only phone I ever had was apple and don’t plan to change but really guys leave the do it three times to microsoft and give us back the EASY WAY…ok I am off my soap box for now… I also want to share with you a few photos from my mt Rainier day trip… WE ALL WORE our masks..

mt Rainier in all her glory against the total blue sky

This card below is from SPLITCOAST STAMPERS…and its on You tube as a TWISTED DIAGONAL FOLD CARD... but while you are there also check out the TWISTED GATE FOLD… another of my favorites…

I am still wearing my flip flops but I am currently not in the south…still the statement holds…

“MY HEART SOARS”

Hello

Hello again…yep still here and I am sure you are wondering what on earth type of card or calligraphy would have a title or name of MY HEART SOARS... the answer is neither of them.

Movies

I just finished watching for the 2nd or 3rd time  UPSIDE… ( I watched it on Showtime but I assume it would also be available on Prime Video)and those words are what happens at the end of the movie and also along the way… I don’t want to say its the best movie I have even seen but while I have heard those words before (don’t know where they actually came from) but this is the one thing that for me they apply to.  I am not going to tell you about it but you can always look it up on google or better yet IMDB.  Its is a fantastic movie and I can’t imagine ever not wanting to see it again…I PROMISE that if you only read the premise or plot for this movie it is not a downer…what kind of person would i be if sent you on a quest for something to make you cry or to make you sad,  I am sure that we all have things like that every day now including but not limited to the news. I kinda felt this way about the BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL…but this one tops that for sure…

This is a rotten time for all of us… and we are all wondering when will it end and if and when it does what will our worlds be like…hard to say but hopefully you find positive, beautiful things about your world and things that will make your HEART SOAR.

NATURE

TURTLES at a pond at the edge of the WALMART parking lot..this was before it got so dang hot.

Ibus… also at the same pond they are such beggars they wait and hope that someone from walmart will come out and throw them some food. They are beggars for sure and you can recognize them by their curved beak. and they usually travel in hurds…

These guys eat bugs, snakes , lizards etc …and those long bills can go very deep into the ground ..

gator at CORKSCREW PARK in Florida

this guy can eat whatever he wants…lol

Pelican on the back of fishing boat on the east coast of Fl ….hoping for some scraps I am sure

WELL I CAN’T BELIEVE its been almost a month since I posted anything…for that I apologize..however we are now in the PACIFIC NORTHWEST and in addition to the normal jet lag from flying across country, I also have the “where is lag”..trying to remember how to get places and even where things are stored here… especially since its been a good 9 months since we were home.  But I am loving it and here are some photos of our back yard and deck..a wonderful neighbor was diligent in watering when necessary and checking on the house.

my frog buddha who holds the peanuts for the squirrels , jays and crows etc..as you can see its almost always empty..

We have lived here for about 20 years and only in the last two years have we had bunny in the back yard… maybe too many dogs around.

We recently too a quick trip to Peninsula and that included a trip to the Olympics and Hurricane Ridge…and what a great treat it was.. We saw a total of 10 deer on the way up and down and then several on the walk/hike across the top .. they were so special and obviously used to having people around and they were not the least bit shy

no trip to the peninsula is complete without a trip over to the straits of Juan de Fuca and of course that means Sea gulls and this guy definitely wanted his picture taken..

These are some of the wildflowers that we saw on the drive up to the top of Hurricane Ridge..note the bee on the thistle..

Above is one of my favorites Indian Paintbrush…

HUMOR

Now a couple of things to make your smile..

So with that said … I am going to sign off for today and I promise it won’t take a month for me to post again.

DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE….

Or KATH’S ADVENTURES…some times it feels like I have fallen down the rabbit hole…a) I am getting bigger…lol b)pretty sure my queen of hearts is actually a king of hearts and I know he is ready to cut off my head…..and I don’t seem to be able to wake up from this adventure and I certainly don’t think I want any more of it…

THE ADVENTURE ( if you don’t want sad story skip down to CARDS)

On April 25th my MOM , who has Alzheimer’s and is subject to UTI’s… and had a UTI was sent to the local hospital and there tested postitive for the virus…I am sparing you some of the details but for the next 35-40 days she  spent in the hospital and on approximately May the 28th she tested negative twice as required and was released to the Memory care facility that she had been in for the last 3 yrs… she is weak and needs physical therapy to walk on her own again (which before hospital stay she did quite well in fact was very healthy physically on Alzheimers med and assorted vitamins and something to help prevent UTI) so she is back and hopefully getting better but I can’t see her and in fact haven’t seen her since sometime in FEB…when they shut the memory care facility to help protect the patients…Its a small facility and I know she is getting best care they can give but still its hard not being able to see her or spend any time with her and she doesn’t get FaceTime at all and try to reach into the screen and touch me…..so we are still here in hopes that the place will reopen to visitors soon and we can see her before we head back to WA…so enough of my adventure it could have been worse she is 94 and other than the UTI had no symptoms…not on regulator at all …I know there are way worse stories out there but I felt the need to share …I did however give you a chance to skip this…

CARDS

FLOATING GATE FOLD…YouTube has a couple videos on how to make this and this one is made off the Video by Dawn.. but I had trouble with the Pop ups sticking to the paper and so I thought I try it a different way…you know me I am a lazy stamper /cardmaker and if there is an easier way I am going to give it try.  I did make it and turns out it is not really easier…so suggest you try either the link to Dawn’s or one of the others that are listed on YouTube.

CALLIGRAPHY

Now for my pen pals..lol pun intended… AMITY PARKS is giving another couple of classes and these are on her CHUNKY CAPS… so here is the link to her new class sign up website also with samples  .http://www.amityparkslettering.com

I think there other classes listed also including a second one on the BISTER INKS.

So you might want to check it out as the classes are in July but not sure if there is a limit on them or not.

Here are some of the pens that I just love… the top one is BRODY PEN from JOHN NEAL BOOKSELLER. Its basically an updated ruling pen…and it has two different angles for making thick letters as then of course the tip allows you to write a moonlike…I had it but hadn’t used until I took JULIE WILDMAN’S AKIM VARIATIONS CLASS and she is also doing more classes here is the link to her web      https://www.wildmandesigns.com

after her class I really started playing with it… it had been virgin so I just looked at it but didn’t try dipping it into ink and even after watching Julie… I only dipped into walnut ink… then I got brave and tried it with sumi… I did clean it well after.

HUMOR

I am not sure if you will be able to click on these links and then see them or not but a calligraphy pal of mine SHARON CLYMER shared them with me recently and they both make me laugh…

This snake one could be here in Fl since we are over run with pythons however because they are an invasive species they are doing their best to eliminate them and so they would most likely have killed it before tossing it… still its pretty funny…its title is “WHEN YOUR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON..

The one below is titled WHERE’S MY PURSE and it is funny but obviously a set up and after looking up the link On YouTube saw that it was at least 2 yrs old…STILL  being down this RABBIT HOLE…I will take all the laughs I can find… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uo1HhX25tRQ

this also cracked me up… now below are some older photos of Mt Rainier and a visit we made last year.

The critter ( other than my hubby and I ) is a Marmot…they cute but not vary sociable..they can do the distancing quite well and that’s probably a good thing as depending on if it early summer they can be rather cranky and they have nasty front teeth …think Badger.. and mostly they want food and women…marmot women… I can’t tell you what flowers they are as my pic is pretty blurry but they are also from the Rainier National Park… this year sadly I had several reservations on the most important one was for around the 25th of July but sadly they have canceled all reservations at PARADISE INN due to this virus so while we could stay outside the park or down at the LONGMIRE area ..its then a good 30 minutes to the top or to PARADISE and I like to get up early around 5 or so and grab a cup of Java and go out side and sit on one of the benches near the visitor center and watch the sun come up over the top of the mt.  It doesn’t rise there but the sunlight starts lighting up the snowfields and it just soothes my soul… and puts me at peace with the world..but If I have to drive for 30 or so minutes while its a pleasant drive but curvy so you can’t go too fast… it means getting up even earlier and then my hubby will wake and think he should go with me… as long as I am just walking across the parking lot he is fine with me going alone and I like to be alone… usually no one else up then and I have often seen deer grazing in the meadow while its still a little dark and no one around… I do love it there.

Mt. Rainier at sunrise.

Ok I promised to try to end this on a happy note so think this photo does that…

POSITIVES TO THE VIRUS

Greetings Fellow Captives

Initially thanks to the media we have seen very little that is positive about this dang virus…( you will note that I will not use the name of this virus as I feel it has gotten way to much attention already….) but EARTH DAY was terrific almost every where this year….. VENICE had canals there were so clear you could see all the way to the bottom for the first time in years….LOS ANGELS had clear skies so that you cauld see all of downtown skyline …something that handn’t happen in about 30 years I think….

Italy canals after lockdown

Los Angeles skyline fully visible…

Lions in africa on empty roadways

DUKE our favorite Gopher turtle

In addition my husbands family owns property that has been in their family since 1910 and we have had gopher turtle on the property for at least 35-40 yrs….maybe not the same one but he is still using the same hole… Gopher’s are protected in Florida and I have recently been sending lettuce, carrots etc up with my hubby to toss out near his house..

Tuesday we were rewarded with him paying a visit to edge of the road and I took this video below…We have decide actually guess I decided to call him DUKE, and no Idon’t really know if he is a male or not . After I took the video he wandered out of sight kinda behind the car so I go out to see where he was and he was right behind the back wheel so. I picked him him and moved back to side of the road where one of his other entrances to his home is located…. as we drove away my husband looked at me and said that I had probably ruined Duke’s afternoon delight because Ray thinks there is a female on the other side of the road…

I also found a lovely duck pair taking a quick bath ( I say quick because an hour from now the water will have evaported) in a puddle across from the grocery

AND while I am stuck here in FLorida due to Mom (94) getting the virus and then testing negative after 25 days in hospital she was due to be released yesterday and they found that her potassium was going down so now probably there till monday., and while the heat Is worse then ever and now we have the love bugs too nasty little guys that don’t bite but fly around in tandem like they are brain dead and really mess up your car….

I have had lovely thunder stoms for the last two evenings just before sunset… and there are lots of lovely trees in bloom here the Ponciana( red to orange0 , the Jacaranda,(Purple) and the Goldenshowers… I have posted photos of them below..

GE DIGITAL CAMERA

GE DIGITAL CAMERA

Remember that My hubby thought DUKE was crossing the road to have a little afternoon delight…well we found proof… below are pictures of DUKE’S FRIEND…we don’t know if its a she or he as we don’t really know what DUKE is so we are just going to call this one CLYDE after Sherlock Holmes turtle ( even though his is a box and ours is a gopher) in any case CLYDE was spotted two days in a row and appears to live on the other side of the highway and about half a football field away…we are attempting to supply each of them with fresh ( semi fresh) veggies…so we’ll see what happens…

AS ALWAYS THANKS FOR STOPPIN BY.... hugs the wire headed cyber toad aka kath

DAWN’S GIFT CARD WALLET

HERE’S HOPPING YOU ALL HAD A WONDERFUL THANKSGIVING AND THAT YA’LL GOBBLED TILL YA WOBBLED…LOL…I am grateful for all ya’ll that check out my blog.

Well I have good news and bad news…. the GOOD NEWS is my Mom is finally back at her residence in FT MYERS… so no more trips to Sarasota except for fun…lol. THE BAD NEWS is that due not being put on antibiotics weeks ..maybe even months ago her cough got so bad that had a fever last sunday of 101…FINALLY they gave her the antibiotics..its a long story why but she is very sad shape…and why not she has been suffering with this for over 6 wks and if they had given her the antibiotics to begin with it would have been gone in just a few days… ok know you didn’t come for this so I will move on…

dawn’s wallet for gift cards

DAWN’S GIFT CARD WALLET ..AS DAWN WOULD SAY THIS IS SO “stinkin Cute” seriously it is … and the great part is that its in plenty time for Christmas…she also tells you that it has so many pockets you won’t believe it…. so you can put gift cards or photos, or notes or just about anything you might want into it and give it ….and it doesn’t have to be Christmas…if  you want to give it as a BIRTHDAY well try using a balloon on the front using  either a die, a punch or fussy cut one out…. its just the cutest card and a very simple fold….

Dawn’s wallets

AS you can see she did one with just the word friend but this could also be a GET WELL, THINKING OF YOU, OR BIRTHDAY OR EVEN JUST BECAUSE …and note the you can also make the front of the card run either vertical or horizontal…

She is using 12 x 12 designer paper..Which means that is also duplex paper…and its gonna be kinda hard to fold… so you will need your embossing folder… you can use lighter weight text paper that in most cases will not be duplex …it just means that what little of the card shows inside will most likely be white or the same color as your outside…. either way due to the number of folds it will be sturdy enough especially if you are adding a gift card if you are adding photos you might want to add a slim piece card stock into the pocket that you put the photo so it doesn’t get bent…and due to the bows which like cause it makes look like a gift…you will have to add additional postage …STILL I think this is worth it…

HINT: regarding the Ribbon…. I would not rely on jus the embellishment on the front holding it in place….I would use a few glue dots on both the front and the back or the wallet and attach the ribbon with them and then also use the embellishment on the front to keep tin place…..

EYE CANDY..this is especially for all my friends and family in WASHINGTON...RAINWORKS is a brief YOU TUBE video of a process by which you  can letter on cement and it will only show up if its wet…. I love it…nothing could be more fun that wandering around Seattle in the stuff we call rain and finding these wonderful works of art and there are several other videos so you can see how and what he uses to make these and they don’t have to happen in Washington it rains everywhere sometime…lol…

Think I may have posted this before if you just type rainworks on You Tube it will come up several more …. ENJOY MY FRIENDS… and letter on…

AS ALWAYS THANKS FOR STOPPIN BY…..

MT RAINIER TRAVEL

GREETINGS…

I assume that you are aware that we for the past several years have spent our winters in Florida and our summers in Washington.  Well since I consider WA my home I am also sure I have perhaps more than I should have , suggested that I’d prefer to spend my time in WA and that I really do miss spending my winters in an area of mostly rain but also within just a few hours of fabulous SNOW…. I know if you have to work in it and drive in it and live with it day in and day out spring is a delight …but i miss playing in the snow …. and though my husband does in fact enjoy the heat he also misses the SNOW…so that when we returned to WA this late spring to find that there MT RAINIER was still packed in snow at the upper elevation namely PARADISE INN we were elated.  In addition I had previously ( in February) booked us our favorite room at the Inn for the 12th and 13th of June well the was just priceless…I don’t usually book this early because we are not usually having good weather namely its raining and cloudy WITTHOUT the benefit of SNOW and usually no chance to see the mountain.  But I had found out ahead of time that the ANNEX at the INN would be closed for renovation beginning in late AUGUST and that it would stay closed for a year or longer… The Inn at Paradise is 100 years old and I am not sure what they are doing but its more than just cosmetic that had been done several times over the years. So I booked the rooms and lucked out… there was at least 10 feet of snow around the INN.

Because the Inn will be closed for so long …one will have to stay down at at the Inn at Longmire or one of the facilities outside the park.

This was the view out of our window looking over at the front end of the INN as you can see there was a lot of snow and I was loving every minute..

my penguin…

out my other window there was this small tree that had been broken down by the incredible amount of snow this year at the mountain but looking at it I thought it looked like a penguin.

the Fireplace at Paradise

An Old Photo of the what the lobby of the Inn looked liked years ago..

Paradise river just before it goes over Narada Falls.

Down at the lower elevation the WILD VANILLA is blooming  I love those leaves

one of my favorite flowers the Orange ones are Indian Paintbrush..

another of my favorites BEAR GRASS also called SQUAW grass….

Mt. Rainier at sunrise.

While I didn’t get to see it at sunrise this time I did get to enjoy all the snow and how quiet  it was because the snow absorbs the sound.

LETTERING AND DOGS AND MOM

Ollie on arm of couch

MY schedule has been kinda hectic lately most due to caring for my Mom… when we first moved her back to FLORIDA ( at her request ) she was living in and INDEPENDENT living apartment… and she was quite independent… she had her small dog and she was perfectly capable both physically and mentally of taking her out regularly and feeding her etc. She had full kitchen although she only used it rarely as she had meals supplied and maid service once a week  and a laundry at the end other hall… but after being there for about 4-5 yrs she was having more and more problems mentally she had been diagonised with ALZHEIMERS…and she was on arrest t medicine which while not preventing or reversing the disease would slow it down and it did……for a while then the facility went through a major renovation and while she was still physically in great shape mentally it was just too much for her and we moved her to an ASSISTED facility… less people still got meals and they cleaned her room once a week and now they did her laundry and she still had her dog…although this was a new rescue dog as her previous dog had died… eventually she was less unable to care for dog mentally forgeting things and trying to feed him strange stuff like packets of diet sugar..etc… finally we had to not only take the dog away ( we have him) but move her to a MEMORY CARE facility….smaller yet and more caregivers and more activity and much smaller room… this was just recently  and it was really a tough move but for the best for her…and for the dog…I hope that this is in some way helpful to others who may be going thru or about to go thru the same thing… and I will answer any emails that I receive, as best as I can  with questions regarding this horrid disease.

When we adopted the dog she was adamant about calling HIM MOLLY previous dogs name and occasionallly she would remember he was a boy but still she called him Molly..so when we had to remove the dog we took him …..He is a wonderful dog and was wonderfully trained before she or we got him… he sleeps in till about 10 he only goes out about 3 times a day ( that is great since we are in a condo and this means elevator). We had not had any pets for about 30 years but we have adjusted to each other well I think, however we are not sure we can keep him due to fact that we are back and forth from WA to FL and taking him on a plane doesn’t sound appealing and driving cross country every time doesn’t sound good either ….we just haven’t committed yet but he is adorable and such a great dog…no barking except if someone comes to door… he is very loving.  He is mostly Shi ZHU with some dachshund  thrown in we think as he is very long in the body…

Ollie ..early morning …not time to get up yet..lol

I know I know …I changed from Molly to Ollie but apparently I now have him as a CAT….poor Ollie…

If we end up driving home this is Ollie’s car seat and he loves it ….
