DIAGONAL POCKET FOLD CARD

OMG…so sorry ..when I did this post I didn’t realize that she was only going to show you how to do the card with the pocket on both the outside and the inside…not the one I liked the best which was just the diagonal fold… no pocket… so here is the link to that video..

MASCULINE DIAGONAL FOLD this video is on YouTube…not her web site …well maybe there too but this is the one I found… basically they all use the same size papers…

BASIC CARD is 8 ½ by 11 ..then score it on 8 ½ side at 4 ¼ ..then rotate paper and score at 5 ½..

Next using your paper trimmer cut the card from one point to the opposite point ie diagonally …if it won’t fit in your paper trimmer that way then you will have to use a self healing cutting board and an exacto and a ruler… then fold on the score lines…

now you have two cards… so for the front triangles you need to cut

2 pieces ( bottom layer 4 x 5 ¼ i wouldn’t use designer paper for this because only an 1/8 inch boarder will show so choose a coordinating paper for this layer or you can just make this your ONLY LAYER ON THE FRONT OF CARD …..you still need two of them since you have two card bases assume you will want to use the same papers on them and in that case if its your ONLY layer probably use designer paper…

if you are doing a TOP LAYER OF DESIGNER PAPER  you will now cut 2 pieces of it 3 ¾ x 5….after you have cut the papers then you will cut each of them again diagonally ie from point to point so that they will fit on the triangle folds on your base card…

SOMETIMES A PICTURE REALLY IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS… so just watch the video this was basically just to give you the measurements so she only gives them on line… aaarrrgggghhh..

above are my two regular sized ones and the one on the left says HAPPY B DAY inside…the other says HAVE A HONEY OF A DAY…

above are the two 6×9 cards with only one layer and in this case because they were smaller I ending up using the same designer paper for both triangles… if you believe that I have bridge in brooklyn that I can sell you really cheap…lmao…. actually I got side tracked and had glued them on before I realized what I had done… so the left card says CELEBRATE wherever you are…. and the right one says DON’T COUNT THE CANDLES ON YOUR CAKE …JUST ENJOY THE GLOW THEY MAKE… ( I think I may have purloined that saying from Hallmark… lol)

Now if you want to make it easier it must also be smaller… so cut the following.

BASE CARD 6 X 9 …SCORED AT 3 X 41/2 ..

the diagonal cut and for the triangle panels on the front and for the inside panel.. cut

cut 2 ..3 ¾ x 4 ¼…only cut one of them diagonally the other can be your inside panel if you used a dark card it should be light … the other piece should be a piece of designer paper. ok hope you find this helpful and worth the second post..

again my bad for not giving you this with the first posting…. thanks for stopping by…

DIAGONAL POCKET FOLD CARD…we have seen this fold b before with putting the pocket fold inside and using it to hold a special note or a gift card… but I LOVED THE IMAGES OF THE CARD FOLDED WITH TWO TRIANGLES ON THE FRONT…

diagonal front fold flaps..

Now Dawn doesn’t give you the way to make this card but if you look closely at this image from her video… I think I can talk you through it. SO HERE GOES… using the 8 ½ x 11 piece of card stock  then score the 8 ½  side at 4 ¼ then rotate the paper and score it  5 ½ now here is where it differers… now instead of only cutting the diagonal on the bottom left rectangle you will not cut a diagonal line front the top left down to the bottom right..then when you go to fold the card closed it will make in insistence a diagonal gate fold…WHAT FUN… I also like the idea of just using complementary papers on the front of the card and a belly band with an image or quote on it … in the example above if you look to the left you will see the belly band with a circle on the front and a quote..

here is one that is closed two scraps of paper and belly band with circle…

two triangles on the front make a pocket on the front

two diagonal cuts make a triangle that folds up to create two pockets using 8 ½  x 11

the original with pocket inside in vertical format

same pocket inside but turned so that the card is horizontal.

in addition this one has a much larger belly band with multiple strips of paper and string..

All of the cards have a space for you to write your message on the inside… but I like the funky two triangle flaps on the front…

EYE CANDY…KEITA SAGAKI...ART WORK done using thousands of tiny manga images….. he draws directly onto paper using a 0.015-inch black pen, referring to images of the painting that he’s reproducing. Sagaki’s drawings vary in scale, from roughly the size of a sheet of A4 paper to enormous works almost 10 feet wide. Given that a single mistake could ruin an entire work, Sagaki takes his time when drawing, and some works take as long as a year to complete….just amazing enjoy..

TRI FOLD CARD

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to all the mom’s out there hope your day is filled with love and laughter…

TRI FOLD CARD..I really liked this card because it had this quirky opening …however you might need to put a little note in with the card that tell them how to open it….I have friends who only receive cards and aren’t involved in making them they may not be able to figure out how to open it…  ANOTHER HINT…When you put the piece be it oval or circle or rectangle don’t overlap it too much ie too far down on the bottom flap because it will make it harder to open and in the end they may accidentally end up tearing the card ….of course you can simply fold the flap inside the card and then it will be easy to open but folding it over the top to hold the card closed is more interesting…as long as they can figure out how to open it…

I also like all the layers both on the front and on the inside but again don’t make that piece that is what holds it close too many layers or again it will be so stiff that the bottom won’t want to fold out easily.

Although Dawn made a wonderful card for her husband or a man card using her motorcycle stamps ….I just want to suggest that MOST men would not have a clue how to open this card…and it would definitely end up being destroyed.  Now her husband would not have a problem because he also makes cards…

I also think that the penguins would work really well with this card as would flowers and also the punch out owls… So just a few suggestions about this card technique…so have fun and GO MAKE SOMETHING… AS ALWAYS THANKS FOR STOPPIN BY…wire headed cyber toad aka kath

CONTACT PAPER MASKING…SCS

I love finding alternative uses for things…. and this certainly qualifies… I think when I was first married I may have NOTE MAY HAVE.. used contact paper to line my shelves in my cupboards…so I got excited when I saw I could buy some respositional contact paper and use it to make art…so you must at least look at the video and then directions and then decide if like me you want to go to amazon (because I am too lazy to run all over town trying to find it) and it turns out its almost that hard to find on Amazon… lol…You might want to wait and check back with me to make sure that what I ordered is in fact removable..they say it is…but they don’t have the word removable on the label…

But the idea really appeals to me… I like using the cut out to add a variety of color and then to stamp again with a design stamp on in this case the balloon… in any case it will take a few days before I can actually try this out and if you buy the large post it notes you can probably do similar idea Ist bit harder to keep the mask in place to add the color.

PANDA WATERFALL CARD

HOPPY EASTER….I AM JUST GONNA JUMP IN  ON THIS ONE…LOL…also I am celebrating a major BIRTHDAY…that’s right I am 16 today…no you don’t believe me well how about 30…ok that’s not working either right..so now you have to just guess but I can say that I am alive and well and thankful for every day…

I love this waterfall card and while I was taught it slightly different this is just so easy…I had to share it again…. and these little panda’s from STAMPING UP … they are a freebee if you spend $ 50 so yeah I had some birthday stuff and I had to have them… I think they are just too cute…here is the link to her video..PANDA WATERFALL VIDEO and below is are the measurements needed for each of the pieces that create the waterfall..

I don’t have all the other set she uses but I had some other narrow stamps that work for that last space…AND I did have several designs of cards that I bought by the box at Michael’s cause they were on sale for like 5 bucks… It was just such a deal and so I am using them for the background layer just like see did and even thought the front and back are not the same it works just fine I think… see below

ok there are my two using a box of black and white cards… but I am also going to make one with my favorite frog stamps and I can’t remember where I got him but he was on an image on PINTREST AND and I found her blog and ordered the stamp… sorry guys I just didn’t keep the info but you should also know that he is unmounted totally no cushion either … anyway I like him but there are tons of frogs out there…

I will still use the black squares and the black card basic..just because I like black and because I think it sets all the colors off better… I am not a fan of ink and paper being the same color… EXCEPT BLACK…lol…

I am also pretty sure that you can stamp the panda with the balloon on the last piece of white if you just mask off the bottom a little it might cut off the feet but the rest of panda and balloon will be just fine…

Here are some other designs you can use on the waterfall card…

I used my favorite frog  and then in the second one I used a large balloon stamp that I have.,..my background on each black base are the fronts on some cards I got at Joann’s that were on sale with like 20 cards in one box and envelopes… only the fronts of the cards are decorative the back are plain white but can be use to create the small squares… just saying..

So give this a card a go and my suggestion /hint is to pre cut some of the pieces of black and white as well as using the measurements to score the long strip of white so that all is ready to create your waterfall at the spur of the moment…

SCS WATERCOLOR TISSUE…

WAIT… this is not the same as the one I had already posted about painting WITH tissue paper… in fact this is just the reverse… with this one using your waterbed stamp pads on a piece of acrylic or the teflon sheets ( amazon) then smear your watercolors together  or not leaving white space will work too… then press your piece of tissue paper or even Kleenex over ink and let it soak thru. Then you will need to lay it aside to dry…

SCS WATERCOLOR TISSUE

SCS WATERCOLOR TISSUE this is great for creating background in which case you can glue it ( tape will not work well) to a piece of watercolor paper or just card stock…white is probably best if you want it to show up well…because tissue is so fragile it needs some kind of backing … if you wanted to use it to die cut or punch something out glueing it to card stock or w/color paper works well… BUT …you can also let it dry then you can use your IRON and butcher paper and you can iron the tissue the butcher paper… now if you also iron clothes with this iron then you want to protect your iron by using another piece of paper over it so that the waxiness of the butcher paper doesn’t get on your iron…if you have those teflon sheets you can use that also….

HINT: IF you use the butcher paper then it will be ok to cut it with the dies..however it gets harder to use the punch so the best way to do it into flip it over and punch with the white side of the butcher paper showing rather than the tissue… if you punch is old and not cutting well try punch it thru tinfoil. few times to try to sharpen the edges… but it still may not work well with a very detailed punch a solid image like balloon, heart , square etc. or any mostly solid image… should work just fine…I also do not think that you will be able to adhere it to the acetate…but you can try by just cutting a small piece and trying it…

NOW they also suggested that if you glue the tissue onto the card stock or watercolor paper ( I suggested glue on the card not on the tissue)then scrunch up the tissue as you press it down you will get more texture and then she suggests that you VERY LIGHTLY ie don’t press down too hard …rub the watermark or embossing pad over the raised parts of the tissue and sprinkle with either (my suggestion ) gold or bronze  or black embossing powder you get this wonderful CRACKLE EFFECT…. now that really excited me…. and you can do it also using the BUTCHER PAPER..

W/C crackle effect..with embossing powder

HINT: once the tissue is colored and dry …wad it up like you were going to throw it away…then iron it onto the butcher paper and again willl achieve texture that you can apply embossing pad/powder to and get those CRACKLE LINES to really show up…. OK so why are ya sittin here reading this …GO PLAY…

HINT: You can also do larger sheets of tissue and then cut it up smaller…especially if you are doing the wadding and iron on butcher paper effect….

EYE CANDY..again this is a kwerner…video and its delightful.. and so much fun…so give it a look and then a HINT…you can get the masking fluid she shows from AMAZON…where else… lo…. WATERCOLOR ENVELOPES

CENTER EXPLOSION card…

Hi there… here I am …. I am going to link you to DAWN’s video for this card but I am the one who put the measurements down in writing… not sure why she doesn’t seem to do that all the time… I find it very annoying to have to keep stopping and staring the video to get it all written down so I am putting it in writing for you here…first here is what Dawn’s card looks like

front of CENTER EXPLOSION CARDS..

Dawn’s center explosioN

Measurements and scoring…

BASE (white) 5 ½ x 12… scored at  3 ½ , 6 and  8 ½ then to get the center x you need to use a pencil and put as she calls them just tick marks at 4 ½ top and bottom and again at 7 ½ top and bottom then use ruler or score pal or your paper trimer to score the X in the center of the card.. she does tell you that the two OUTSIDE FOLDS  are VALLEY  and that the X FOLDS are MOUNTAIN.. so that is helpful to know..

FRONT PANEL OUTSIDE AND TWO INSIDE PANELS ..cut 3 at 3 3/8 x 5 3/8.. this is the bottom layer and hers are the black pieces then the white pieces over the top you only need two for the inside panels so they are cut 2 at 3 x 5.. HINT: if your using colored cardstock for the BASE..then you would only need the white panel inside for stamping on.

SQUARE FOR THE FRONT cut at 3 1/8 by 2 ¾ layer your designer paper over that and DESIGNER SQUARE is cut at 3 x 2 ½ . I didn’t do the circles because I thought you could figure those out for yourself depending on what you want to stamp on them...HINT: remember that its always better to stamp and then punch out …to make sure your stamp not only fits but is centered…

Dawn does give you are really good HINT: use a piece of old file folder and cut the template for the two pieces of explosion and WRITE on it that it is your template …then I put it along with my directions and the image of the card into a sheet protector so that all the pieces are then when I am ready again to make the card… and because I am me… I will probably cut and score a few bases to and put them in sheet protector with the template and info so I am slightly ahead with my design…

You will see that she has two designs for the front and one them she has a tie to hold it closed..I am not fond of the tie but I do like the idea of just a strip of the design paper on the front and again if its on a white or light colored card stock you won’t necessarily need the panels inside to stamp on… up to you… she is just being good with sharing a different design for the card…If you want/need to hold the card closed you can also use a BELLY BAND….to slide around the card holding it closed and you could put your embellishment on the belly band rather than on the card front…or do both… there are no EXPLOSION center card police…lol.

Lastly I made my first one to make sure I had the papers correct and found that even though it was a perfectly good card I decided to save it as a sample in that … you got it… sheet protector… I am a hands on person and sometimes a picture just isn’t enough so a sample works great for me…

SCS SNOWMAN PUNCH BOARD

SCS SNOWMAN PUNCH BOARD TREAT HOLDER….this is just too cute…I am working away on my 10 that I need for New Years eve party….

OMG …you know I love snow and this little snowman is just adorable and so easy…I plan to use it or my placard  at my New Years eve dinner…. I will need 10 of them but they are just too cute…

SCS snowman treat holder by

SCS PUNCHBOARD SNOWMAN..YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE THIS guy and I am even going to use him for my JANUARY AND FEBUARY birthdays…since they are all back where there will be snow…and I have a snowflake punch to use for the name tag for New Years and I can stamp happy birthday on it for the birthday ones ……HINT: I will try to use ribbon for his scarf as I don’ have good luck with Washi tape and especially twisting it and then getting it to stick… but glue dots will work just fine for ribbon...HINT: I think I WILL USE  this for New Years I will also use use a small circle and the printer to put 2018 on it ….. pretty clever huh…..some days the brain does work better than others…lol that instead of a flower for on his hat…

I am also going to probably delete the arms as I don’t have anywhere to get the branches…condo here and they frown on you cutting the plants …lol,…so I will just use a glue dot to adhere the punched out snowflakes with the names on them…for the party

I may also use the end of an eraser on a pencil to make the buttons on the front of the snowman since I don’t have green buttons… to glue on…

Ok this is short but there is not much too it… while I will use some ghirdelli chocolates for the insert on some of the snowmen … for the guys..I think I will insert the mini snickers bars …just so its not so girly…

You could also add a gift card to each on and because it wouldn’t stay on its own you can use a glue dot on the back of it and then they can just take pull it out and remove the dot… they are not that permanent on something like a gift card….well guess thats all for now….

HAVE A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR... last post before 2018.. see ya next year…AS ALWAYS THANKS FOR STOPPIN BY…wire headed cyber toad …AKA kath

SCS SANTA PANTS BASKET

IMPORTANT NOTE:  I FOUND THAT THE STRAPS WOULD NOT HOLD WITH JUST TAPE NOR PROBABLY GLUE…I ENDED UP USING STAR BRADS BUT ANY BRAD WOULD WORK AND LITTLE ROUND BLACK ONES WOULD BE LESS NOTICEABLE… THIS IS WITH THE BASKET ONLY ½ FULL (ONE LARGE BAG) OF CHRISTMAS KISSES …RED AND GREEN…

Hi y’all a special THURSDAY TREAT… I just found this and thought it was just to cute not to share…

SCS SANTA PANTS BASKET  This is so cute that I am making it to take on Saturday to my family Christmas and Pretty sure I can find kisses in red and green to fill the basket…

SCS santa pants basket

It is quick and simple and way to clever …its a by a new design TWILA DAVIS and huge thanks for sharing this lovely idea …THIS TIME of year a hostess gift is always a good idea and while wine is nice gift how to know what kind to buy is another mind boggler and don’t we have enough to think about at this time…. so no one doesn’t like chocolate…and if they do then just fill the basket with peppermints instead… but me I am going for the chocolate or even do half and half…. any way I just wanted to share this soon so that you would have a chance to make it before needed it not after…

Because of that I am not giving you much here but the link and then the photo so that you can see how lovely it is….

Hope you find this as interesting as I did… thanks again TWILA DAVIS…new SCS DESIGNER..

SCS LAYERED WINDOW CARD

TICK TOCK,TICK TOCK….YEP the clock continues to click on getting your cards together to and ready to mail…but least you feel that you won’t make it ….let me just say that late cards are always accepted and you can change it to a NEW YEAR’S CARD and buy yourself an extra week…lol

SCS LAYERED WINDOW CARD this is an interesting little card…and while they show it standing up…that will only happen if you have either one of those alligator clips on a base or if you send along a small plastic photo stand for it go it… but it is unique and unique is good.. I am pretty sure that I have posted about this before but its been awhile so thought I would do it again… and perhaps use a different die maybe just a plain circle…

Layered window

Open layered window

I am pretty sure that we have done this before but it is one my favorites… and don’t think that you have to do those side panels with the same stamp you can use word stamps or you can use the various decorator papers you might have also… and again the shape in the center could be round , or heart , square or even just plane round… and as I have suggested so many times… cut some of the bases and fold them so that they are ready to go they all you need to do is add your panels and the center design… I do suggest that you stamp first and cut second on those so that you make sure you get the images that you want where you want them …..this is also one of those image and added words will work so well with the stamping platform that I gave you links to last week…I am not saying you have to have it but it does make laying out a multiple image layout much easier…

just in case you missed it last week TIM HOLTZ STAMPING PLATFORM again…my good friend and best stamping buddy JANIS BLEVINS ..shared these with me and now I am sharing it with you….

In any a case hope you enjoy this who knows maybe it will be your 2017 christmas or valentine card..

I am keeping this short cause I am sure we both have lots to do…lol….AS ALWAYS THANKS FOR STOPPIN BY…wire headed cyber toad aka kath

SHADOW BOX CARDS..

YES, we are in that frantic race towards christmas…and if ever time really does fly its between THANKSGIVING AND CHRISTMAS….There just seems to be so much to do and never enough time… I have taken to keeping paper and pen next to my bed so that when http://kathharney.com/dawns-shadow-box-card-my-variation/my brain supplies wonderful ideas I write them down as next morning I know I won’t remember what I thought up… and sometimes that’s a good think NOT ALL LATE NIGHT IDEAS are good ones…lol

When it comes to SHADOW BOXES there are so many different ways to make them.. almost all of them will like flat for mailing depending on how dimensional you make the inside… it can be simple or complex. I have shown you some of the possible ways in a previous post…SHADOWBOX/3D these are a that are made using punches and the card is a typical folded card.  So you have a front and and inside where the shadow part is located.. Below is one of my favorites and this one uses a DIE which is currently on sale at Dawn’s for ½ price…what a deal… plus I love this image…

DAWN’S BALLOON SHADOW BOX

Ok then there is a version where the card stands up on its own and then it folds flat with a cut out in the center…DAWN’S STANDING SHADOWBOX/MINE this is a previous post from back in 2015… told you there were a lot of these…lol… but I like this on a lot too as it again fits in an A2 ENVELOPE and is mailable without extra postage unless your embellishments are really dimensional and not paper… HINT:  IF THERE IS A BUMP ADD EXTRA POSTAGE..

shadowbox my version

MY shadow box using Dawn’s pattern..

DAWN’S RECENT SHADOWBOX CARD ..this is a lovely card and because she has worked to make it really dimensional… you should watch the video to see that she has glued pieces both inside the circle and on the outside thus giving it more dimension.  This one also is made using the the two pieces on the side to pull out so that the card sorta unfolds and it will at that point stand up by itself unless you have too many heavy embelllisments on it….remember less is more…. and also to use foam tape on at least some of the embellishments…here are her two examples .

Dawn’s xmas shadowbox

Personally I like this one best because I think the images of trees and houses in snow with blue big round and just small amounts of sliver are very christmasy…however, that said I am not a fan of the stamping up glimmer paper….I just think its too much I prefer a softer effect like using the wink of Stella…

Dawn’s xmas shadow box

I don’t like this one as much because I feel the red doesn’t go with the village nor the trees…I gues if I was going to use red I would think about using a Santa or christmas packages or reindeer or a wreath although for wreath I would probably use green..anyway this looks nice I just don’t find it as appealing as the blue one…. or a green one…

Now here is one more and this one is from an older post by SPLIT COAST STAMPERS …I am not giving you the link but you can just type it into the search box on thier web site and it will come up… its much more involved as it uses cuts etc to create a more box like farme around your background image and there is very little room to adhere anything to the frame but still some make like it…

SCS shadowbox like a photo frame..

STAMPING PLATFORMSif you have been hearing about them and don’t know what they are or how they work… here are two links that will help you decide… I do really like the  the TIM HOLTZ one because it does let you use it with either the rubber type stamps from SU or the clear ones ….there are a couple of techniques shown also which are great …re stamping with out worry about lining it up.. adding extra colors… etc… anyway check them both out..TIM HOLTZ video even if you don’t think you want one of these you will enjoy seeing how they are used…

AS ALWAYS THANKS FOR STOPPING BY…wire headed cyber toad..aka kath
