Pinterest Frog card

WELL HERE WE ARE AGAIN….and I recently found this card from on Pinterest and I hadn’t been on P for a while and I discovered that many of the links no longer go to the item you were looking at BUMMER…it goes to the web site and then you have to look for what you wanted…. I am not sure why this is happening but this FROG Is a good example.  But I have a thing for Frogs so I thought I’d share this with you …

Pinterest Frog card

You will either need circle and oval dies or you will need circle and ova punches…

FROG HEAD……medium oval

FROG BODY ………ONE LARGE CIRCLE AND ONE MEDIUM CIRCLE

LEGS ……..TWO SMALL OVALS ONE FOR EACH SIDE.

EYES…3 SIZE CIRCLE..SMALLEST ONE BLACK WITH WITH WRITING…of course you know I would probably use google eyes…. what can I say….

CAT TAILS

head cut small rectangles about ½ inch wide and about 2 ½ long then round the corners and apply the to the thin strips to be the stems.

BOW…I am only guessing but think it could be a small butterfly punch or die or you overlap two tiny hearts to make it also…

Dawn’s Move Me card and TRI FOLD CARD

GREETINGS

AT first glance this looks like a card with a window shade …and an image behind it… not so…. this is the most amazing card…and YES i went directly from the video to the shopping to order this bundle ….You will have to watch it to appreciate it…

YOU MOVE ME VIDEO

OK are you amazed…definitely SHOCK AND AWE.This is just such an incredible idea and while I think both the butterfly and the hummer are terrific images but I can only hope that they do this with some other images as well …like balloons or boats or the birds..airplanes … ok I’ll try to calm down… but I am excited about this  bundle and in addition I will post another of Dawn’s cards which is also using this butterfly die as an overlay over a solid image of a butterfly..this is a die cut that comes with the set and gives you both a solid image and the cut out image…

aren’t they just amazing.. I will try to show you an additional card that also uses this butterfly and it uses the butterfly as a closure to hold the card closed… its the                    LIVE LOVE LAUGH TRI FOLD This is a rather simple card but the fact that she used the butterfly to hold the flap on the front closed…is really unique.  In any case I think you may find lots of ways to use the dies in this set.

BUTTERFLY CLOSURE OPEN

BUTTERFLY CLOSURE .. then when closed the left side of the card tucks lightly under the piece of butterfly that is cut out…. creating a very unique card.

It’s not to easy to see but if you look closely at the photo above and of course watch the video you will see that she only cuts out part of the butterfly so that part is available to lift up and tuck the other side of the card under it… As I said you will probably find lots of other things /images /dies that can also be used this way…the coffee cup die….the small animals the bear , lion and elephant all of those also could be used as a CLOSURE.

In addition it doesn’t really have to be a die that you cut out half way and then tuck the other side of the card under….it could be an image that you punched out and then only glue half of it onto the card leave the other half unglued and you can also tuck the left side of the card under it…. it makes for a nice effect on the card so look at your dies, your punches and even some embellishments might work for this TRI FOLD CARD.  Of course I am drawn to this card because I am ALWAYS drawn to card that doesn’t just open like any store-bought card…. I always want the unique or special effect to my cards…the real joke to this is that and I can’t believe I am sharing this but the truth is once I have made the card and sent it out my recipient….if they text me or call me to tell me how much they loved the card I usually have to admit to them that I have no idea what I sent…. now this is both embarrassing as well as kinda hurtful to my friend as it kinda implies that I don’t really care I just sent a card…. nothing to could be farther from the truth…I actually work hard on trying to come up with a design that think my friend will both like and appreciate. However, once its in the mail…I am on to the next creation and lately I have been spending more time working on my lettering …I have been neglecting it and I really want to improve my scripts and use my design ideas to create better lettering.

So thats all for this post… AS ALWAYS THANKS FOR STOPPIN BY….wire headed cyber toad…aka kath

LETTERING FUN FOR ALL

CALLING ALL CALLIGRAPHERS AND SCRAPBOOKERS…

I have always had an interest in all the different lettering styles that are out there… years ago I worked in an office with ….hold on…age spoiler alert….I had an IBM SELECTRIC typewrite and my boss would let me by new type balls for it about once a month….yeah I am old…anyway once I started learning Calligraphy …. I was still interested in the fonts that are out there for your devices….after teaching them to myself I taught them I have a new one here I’d like to share… I don’t know where I found it maybe Pnterest…..but I was excited about the ROUND-NESS of the letters and the kinda swirl on them so I am calling it the SWIRLY ALPHABET….It was designed in 1930 (yeah art deco) by SAMUEL WELO and the first image below is his and it was untitled …..maybe it didn’t sell or wasn’t used much in any case I LOVE IT…

SWIRLS  LETTERS

Couple of hints….about above lettering….be careful with the curl on both the capital and the lower case if you cur it too tight it will look like an e….I would also pull the leg of the lower case k in a bit more so that it is not confused with an h….In most cases the placement in the word would correct this confusion…but these are just the tweaks I would make…

CALLING ALL CALLIGRAPHERS…I was recently contacted by a OLIVIER JENNES…FROM THE UK…. he had found me via Goggle I think and he and others had put this site together to review the pros and cons on a variety of calligraphy pens.http://wonderstreet.com/blog/the-best-brands-of-calligraphy-pens.  He asked me to review the site and let him know what I thought …. what i thought was that they had put in a lot of work to gather the info own a lot of different pens and I was impressed so I am sharing this site with calligraphers or anyone interested in calligraphy or writing. So if you have any questions about pens this is a great site to find some well researched answers. I have not personally used all the different pens he mentions but the ones I am aware of I agreed with all the information they shared… My only disagreement was with the PILOT FLUMIX fountain pen….. and actually there was nothing wrong with what they wrote but I had a very bad experience with one of those pens… IT LEAKED … big time… I was flying and it was in my carryon bag along with other pens and I only that one leaked….it was so bad I just threw it away and was really glad that I had put it in a zip lock bag… Now I should say that that was the only Flumix I ever bought and its possible that it was in some way defective…..I would suggest also that if this a fault with the pens it would also happen if you were driving in mountains. I also told them that ZIG were my favorite felt tip pens and that SAKURA has some great permanent disposable calligraphy pens in a variety of colors and they have a crisp edge. I also really love PILOT PARALLEL PENS ….the ink is not great as its not lightfast , not permanent or waterproof but you can fill the barrel with better ink, or acrylic etc and they write wonderfully ….to me they are the cadiliac of non dip calligraphy pens … or they can be dipped as well.

well my last wish is that your pens may never run dry….AS ALWAYS THANKS FOR STOPPIN BY.…wire headed cyber toad..aka kath

POP UP BOOK CARD

GREETINGS FELLOW CARD MAKERS…

DAWN’S POP UP BOOK CARD.. THIS CARD GOT ME SO EXCITED… my youngest granddaughter is turning 21 the end of this month and I just thought how cute would this card be with two photos for the book pages..one of her as little girl and one of her now…I hope to get it done in time… but you can use stamp images or whatever you want for the book pages…..I have to measure it but I think you could even do this as a mini desk type calendar with the calendar pages on the right side of the book and an image or postage stamp on the left side…. I need to check the measurements of the tiny calendars…where you tear a page a day off..( impress cards and crafts).

Front Dawn’s pop up book card

Inside pop up book card

It’s hard to see in the green but there is a about a ½ in that allows the book to part to sorta pop out rather then up.. in any case you have the measurements to use to make the little pages for the inside of the card…you can use your stamps or you can use photos which ever you have or whatever very you want…

I did notice when I was looking at my page I printed with her measurements …there was no measurement listed for the what I am calling the liner (inside) card which is the green.

So here are the measurements as well as the scoring numbers that you will only find on the video and here on my blog…so I am calling this my HINT: SO the liner (green ) is cut at 4 x 8..then put on trimmer the 4 inch width at and place it at 1″ then cut from 1″ down to 7″…then flip the card over again with 4 ” width and repeat …cut at 1″ in and then start at 1″ and cut down to 7″…

Next flip the card so that you are at the 8″ width and from the left hand end score at 1″ just between the cut lines not all the way across…then again at 1 ½ inch again between cut lines …NOW JUST FROM TOP TO THE CUT LINE SCORE AT 2 ½ AND REPEAT THAT AT THE BOTTOM FROM THE BOTTOM UP TO THE CUT LINE NOT ALL THE WAY ACROSS.

SCORE ALL THE WAY ACROSS AT 4 ” AND FLIP THE CARD OVER AND AND REPEAT SCORES..from the end 1″. And then 1 ½ inch inside the cut lines…and the outside cut lines from top down to cut line at 2 ½ and also from bottom up to cut line at 2 ½ . Now you have all your score lines set so you can begin folding with the valley then mountain on the ends of the book..and valley in the center of the book then fold the card in half to get other folds in place so that booklet pops out.  Then use her video to see about gluing the card in rather than tape just because it may get opened and closed a lot and the glue will hold better than the tap…..ok that should help and I printed the first two pages of he post and then wrote these measurements on my print out so I would have them when I wanted to make the card…

I am certain that she just forgot to list that liner card size due to just getting back from THAILAND and probably she has jet lag… I know I would … but I really though this card was extra cute and would work great for birthdays….if you have younger and current photos…lol… otherwise its great with sentiments or image stamps… balloons and cake etc.

Ok think that is all for now so enjoy.  AS ALWAYS THANKS FOR STOPPIN BY…wire headed cyber toad..aka kath

FRENCHIE’S BOX IN A Z FOLD..

FRENCHIE’S BOX IN A Z FOLD …..WELL we had made this Z FOLD  with a couple of different twist to it but this is really cute also as it has sorta pop ups coming out of the box… Plus its Frenchie and you know how I just love her accent and also her laid back method of making art.  She so goes with the flow… she does a birthday one and then a christmas one….so this is a popcorn video..its 25 minutes long but its worth every minute.

Z BASE IS 4 ¼ X 11 THE BOX PART IS CUT 2 1/8  X 11..YOU SCORE BOTH OF THEM AT 2 ¾  AND 5 ½ .

This is her vision of the birthday box one…and it is taken form over head so that you can see how the layers go in inside the box.

Frenchie’s bday box z card

then here are the images of her xmas one or winter one.

I really like that she suggests that you put a piece of clear plastic in the back panel cause it will give it a bit more depth and give you something to attach your pieces too. As I said its a long video but she does a good job and has lots of good suggestions and I like that for the winter /snowman one she basically designs it as she goes… she made all her pieces first and then had them ready to assemble .

Well since the video is long …I am going to keep this short… but check out Frenchie and enjoy the video..You Tube has several different videos on this same card and each is just a bit different…

DAWN’S OUT OF BOX CARD/VIDEO

DAWN’S OUT OF BOX CARD/VIDEO Ok I am leaving this with the title that she gave it but if it was just me… I’d say its the INSIDE OUT CARD..(its also a very old video).this is basically a regular card with a cut out on the front and an image in this its a butterfly but it could be a flower or a frog or a bear or whatever you want… and what happens is the half of it is inside the cut out and the other half of it is OUTSIDE…. it gives such a great dimension to the card .  But the truth of the matter is it’s really just an optical illusion.  In the case of the butterfly you do have to cut a part of it out by hand then layer it onto the front of the card and while she shows you two images of two different cards….the flowers aren’t …AND actually one the one on the left is done the way of the butterfly the other two are complete cut outs and  applied at the end. ( to me anyway ) as impressive as the butterfly so I am going to suggest just go with one  image and make it bigger even if you have to hand cut a bit of it….

Dawn’s out of the box butterfly

flowers /butterfly

Ok so there you have it and you can look thru your images and see what you can find that might work… it might work better with a circle or a square so give it some thought and see what you can come up with… I think the flower would have worked better if she had put it at the top or bottom of the oval and only had the one…or had smaller ones on the outside… but give it a try and of course if you make ones you can post it the comments or a link to it and share it with me.

As always thanks for stoppin by …wire headed cyber toad…aka kath

DAWN’S TRIFOLD POCKET

GREETINGS Y’ALL

This is such a cute and quick card… and it will work great for you to make your one insert…which could be an invite for a free dinner or for lunch out or even a photo or a gift card .

One of the best things about this is that it maximizes the use of the 12 x 12 designer paper…If you follow the measure meets you can get 3 cards out of one sheet of paper…each strip is cut only 4 ” wide by 12 ” long…and then you can use either side of the duplex paper or if you only have single sided paper then use the designed side..

DAWN’S TRIFOLD POCKET

another tri fold pocket

Dawn’s trifold pock

MEASUREMENTS :

cut at 4″ x 12″   TRI FOLD PAART OF CARD..score at 4″ and at 8″ see video for pocket fold

cut at 4 1/4″ x 4 ¼″ ACTUAL BASE TO WHICH THE FOLDED POCKET IS ATTACHED

cut (2) at 3 5/8″ x 23 5/8″ LAYERS

cut (2) at 3 1/2″ x 3 ½″  INSERT AND FRONT

This is such a simple fold and yet it makes an elegant card…now she goes thru telling you how to use your PUNCH BOARD to create an envelope to hold this card which is a SQUARE… HOWEVER, you can use a standard size envelope or a 5 x7 which is bigger but depending on how many elements you have on the front you might want to do as well. In addition , a square envelope costs extra but again if you have several layers on the front it will be thick enough that you would need extra postage anyway.

Watch for JoAnne’s or Michael’s to have pads of 12x 12 paper on sale. but don’t hesitate to use what you already have available…..or you will end up like me with so much paper that you can almost open your own paper store …and yet still not have what you are looking for…lol

kh front tri fold pocket

kh open to right showing pocket

in addition to the layers… if you have some of those WOBBLE SPRINGS..( I know that IMPRESS and AMAZON HAVE THEM FOR SALE..) IT would be fun not use one of those on the front with your image or die cut.. but that will definitely mean you need to use the extra postage on your envelope when you mail it.Alas my wobbles haven’t arrived yet so this will probably post without them

EYE CANDY

NOW….I am pretty sure I have told y’all that I don’t really sew…I can sew a few things and I have sewn things onto my cards but really making anything other than place mats, table runner or napkins….you need someone else…but one of my best friends has recently been bitten by the quilting bug and so I am seeing lots of lovely quilts on FB…but I had seen this woman’s art work once before and I think I posted some of it but I had to share this again.

When you first look at these you will think they are paintings, or colored pencils but they are all actually sewn with a large variety of cloths into the images you see.  I am so impressed with all of these….I can’t draw so I use rubber stamps but I can’t imagine how difficult it would be to make these images …. so enjoy this eye candy.

SOPHIE’S ART WORK I said that this was all quilting but actually she says its both quilting and embroidery…either way its absolutely stunning…so enjoy

DAWN’S LOVELY LAUREL POP UP

HEY Y’ALL

I I just wanted to share the link to Dawn’s Laurel pop up… since I had shared Frenchie’s on the 28th of July mostly because I just love her accent and her laid back attitude with her creativity. It’s a cute card and of course the stamp and die bundle make it easy so just thought you would want to see it one more time. And if you had trouble with Frenchie’s accent then this might be helpful

I AM STILL LAUGHING.… I had family visiting and apparently I never finished the post for FRENCHIE’S LOVELY LAUREL ..CARD so I have linked to it right here with the blue and and then right below in the blue is Dawn’s version ..her’s is little simpler but both of them are really cute and YES I did go buy the stamps and the die cute to create what they are calling laurel which I would call WREATH.. either way it make a cut dimensional 3D type card,. So enjoy and just know that we all get ahead of ourselves from time to time …take a page from Frenchie and just laugh and move on…

FRENCHIE’S TUNNEL CARD

GREETINGS Y’ALL

Once I found FRENCHIE… I was so delighted with her “just do it ” attitude and her accent that I kept going back for more… FRENCHIE’S TUNNEL CARD….is not what I would call a Tunnel card but that’s what she calls it… after you watch the video you will see that she has images , embellishments etc hanging down from the center of opening in the inside of the card…I made one and it does work but frankly I don’t care so much for the hanging part…so my idea is to make to more 3D and attach the images to the inside , outside and the background of the opening… but either way its a fun card and will delight the recipient.

Frenchie’s tunnel card

This is the one she did with the balloons and she didn’t like it so the video is done with butterflies….the balloons don’t hang well due to the fact that they have string on the bottom of them if you used foam tape to adhere one to the inside of the cut out and one to the outside of the cut and then one on the base card itself all those cords would be just fine and it would look just a good I think… same with the butterflies or whatever you may choose to use on your card….

Basically you are going to use a standard 5 ½ x 8 ½ card for the base and if you want to stamp inside  your cut out then you probably do want to use a white or off white base card.  The the pop out part can be designer paper/card stock …not to think or it won’t pop out well and also will be difficult to adhere images/embellishments .

TIP: my first tip is that when you got to put the two pieces together the easiest way to do it is to put the one end as she shows but then IF YOU FOLD the pop out then you can apply the tape and then just fold the card shut and it will line up perfectly… at least that’s my way.

So watch the video and then give it your best shot…Here is my image I did use a sheet of decorator card stock for the inside pop out..and then stamps for the inside base

my version of Frenchie’s tunnel.

inside of my tunnel

You can’t see the head of the bird because it laying almost flat…but when its open then you can see his bird really well.

You may also see that my insert while cut the same size as the base card..I chose not to glue it to outside edges instead I moved it just about a 1/8 of an inch inside….it won’t lay out flat when opened all the way but who does that anyway… all the butterflies are mounted on pop up dots…

Ok try the card either way and AS ALWAYS THANKS FOR STOPPING BY …wire headed cyber toad aka kath

SCS TIE DYE TECHNIQUE

Quote

GREETINGS ONE AND ALL

I love the idea of repurposing almost anything and I am a BABY BOOMER ergo a child or the 60’s so tie dye is in my blood….

In addition to the look of this…I love the fact that this has TEXTURE…so when she says don’t smooth it out …DON’T….I still have a grocery brown paper bag full of wadded up tissue paper that you can iron onto freezer paper or  butcher paper so that you can not only actually use the tissue paper but it has great texture…but I digress…this just looks like a fun project and a great way to create interesting background.

SCS TIE DIE TECHNIQUE  here is the link ….watch it and go create…

SCS TIE DYE TECHNIQUE

HINT:  I am sure some of you are going to say well I don’t know what colors to put together…or I don’t have any stampin up ink pads…no worries just stick die based inks not pigment ( probably just cause it would take forever to dry ) and then some of those ombré stamp pads already chose the colors for you and if you don’t have any of those I am sure you have some of the older rainbow pads the ones that you slide together to use and unslide to close up so they didn’t bleed together….and it you Don’t have any of either of these…..YOU NEED TO DO SOME SHOPPING..LOL…

Tsukineko
Kaleidacolor

Hero Arts
Ombré pads.

Both of these are probably, sometimes, maybe , available at Joanne’s or Michael’s but they are also available at local stamp stores and defininately at AMAZON…

  • HINT: she doesn’t actually say but implies that you only want to use three that’s COLORS or it may get muddy looking unless you want to make it a rainbow effect but again…( i taught 1st grade for many years so I believe in repetitation ) don’t try to cover all the space…leave some white space between rows…it will look better …TRUST ME…lol…ok there you have it ….so lets see a run on coffee filters at the grocery…oh and UNSENTED BABY WHIPES ALSO.
