CARD SKETCHES and VALENTINES

GREETINGS AND SALUTATIONS..AND HAPPY VALENTINES…

I hope you are not suffering from a chocolate hangover…lol…

I am posting this link because it will link you to all of the CARD SKETCHES or basics that Dawn has posted so far… this is new this year the sketches, and I think its a great idea since it basically just gives you a layout or format to work with you and you pick and choose your own stamps for use with that format.  She usually gives you an actually card that she made in that format as well… DAWN’S SKETCHES..

Then I also wanted to share some of the Pinterest VALENTINES …these are also kinda like sketches at they are just there to give you ideas  and layouts that may work for some of the stamps you may have… so enjoy

the above card is using stamping up dies the swirly circles , the love is a die also from them but there is a similar one that is a fishers punch.. and the heart is probably a punch but could be die also from stamping up..I like it except for cutting the love out of teal or blue paper… it would have been better if they used black…to go with the cord  and the black heart

stamping up owls punch

this is also stamping up ..owls punch a die cut circle and the leaves on a branch is also a stamping up die ..I think

This one is I think out of lavender paper but it photographs as if it was grey…I probably would have used red and white cord and maybe a red and white polkadot heart…

I love kraft card stock and the embossing template of small heart on only one side of the paper is very cute as is the small embossed kraft heart… making a heart out of the checkerboard and using a strip of the paper to make like a ribbon also very nice… I am not however fond of pink… but on the whole the card works…

I have done these before and I do like doing them but you do need to start way ahead like in the middle of january for me…lol… basically you just trace a heart and then using an awl of some sort but not too big a whole ..you punch all around the heart shape .erase your pencil lines and the just stick randomly back and forth across the heart or you can make it more uniform and go from left to right …this is most impressive I think… start by taping the one of the cord to the back of the card panel… when finished you would layer this on the front or the inside of your card…

this is that same embossing template..with tiny hearts then layered with red behind each one… very stunning and while simple it looks fantastic and the two tiny cut out hearts at the bottom ….perfect…

so save this post so that you have it to look at for next year…BUT… hearts are not just for VALENTINES… you could use any one of these to say HEARTFELT wishes for HAPPY BIRTHDAY ETC… just remember it doesn’t have to be exactly like the picture…make it your own …use what you have and most of all have fun…

EYE CANDY….ICE SCULPTURES a friend of mine in WA CAROLE CROSE…sent me these images …probably because she knows that I don’t like the heat in FL and it has been warming up way too much lately so looking at these besides being eye candy they do help to make me feel cooler…enjoy

Valentine candy holder by DAWN

DAWN’S VALENTINE CANDY HOLDER ..This is so cute that I had to just share it right away… I am taking friends out for dinner on Valentines and I made each of them one of these as well an extra one for our waiter….imagine having to work on Valentines..any way its quick and easy and I love HERSEY NUGGETS…so this was a no brainer…now I just have to find someone else to share the extra’s with cause if they stay in my house I will eat them… lol… You may remember that I made those cute little snowmen to give to these same friends on our NEW YEAR’S EVE DINNER…but you may also remember that we got sick and so it didn’t happen so I have them tucked away for next year’s party…oooohhh I may be ahead…no its not possible… well maybe…

Dawn’s candy holder

IT’S basically just a strip of 3X7 CARD STOCK ….scored at 1 3/8 , 1 7/8 , 3 ¼ , 3  3/4

I KNOW REALLY ITS THAT SIMPLE..then just roll it up and glue together and EMBELLISH..

NOW DAWN STAMPED on the paper to give it more decoration and them because she was using the ink color that matches the paper it didn’t show up much and so I think that’s why she goes back and adds the wink of stella… HINT: I would not use the same color ink ( wouldn’t use green either lol) I would stamp the images in WATERMARK ink pad as that would make them darker but they still won’t show up really well… I would have used pink paper and stamped in red etc or lavender and stamped in red… but choose whatever color you want….

HINT: If you use patterned paper or designer card stock make sure its doesn’t have an up and down or if it does be sure you cut it so that the pattern is not running upside down… yeah I did it not very smart huh… well at leas I only did one… sometimes I am on a roll could have done multiples…so it wasn’t all bad…so a word to the wise…

In addition, I used lots of stickers and commercial embellishments rather than die cuts or punches… but I did use some… so you can make this as hard or as easy as you want…. and you will still have time to get it down by WEDNESDAY..yes that’s Valentines…

my carndy holders.

I did use commercial embellishments in the foam hearts and also the snoopy stickers and even the puffy hearts were commercial embellishments…but the love is die and I did punch it out and then run it thru the tyron sticker maker and viola…the big heart in the background is also a very old fixers punch one of those ones with the handles..I don’t actually like them as they don’t last well but I have had these for a while mostly cause they usually only get used once a year.  I really liked them because they are funky…they are not perfectly shaped hearts

kwdesign EASY WATERCOLOR

HELLO ALL YOU FAITHFUL…..playing catch up sucks… and lately I have been in way over my head… as we age so do those who we love around us age… I have had relatives with aging problems, and my mom’s extra care giver left town for very valid reasons so i had to go thru trying to get another and I did it but all of that is just excuses for not posting the last couple of weeks… actually without going to look I have no idea when the last blog posted … I had been staying ahead but then ……

Anyway back to blog… I have been playing with watercolor as as well as playing with lettering more than card making…I can’t promise that I am going to be able to stay caught up but I am going to give it a try… I did pay with this idea and below are some of my play.

my masked watercolor backgroun

My scribbled lives piece using the watercolor background

kwdesign..EASY TAPED WATERCOLOR this is another one of her designs and I’ve it too..I told ya’ll I was really in to watercolor backgrounds…so you can skip the ad after a few seconds… all YouTube videos have ads…

A couple of things I would mention after you have seen the video …its possible to buy masking tape which won’t tear up your paper when you remove it… that is already in the the thin strips….so being the LAZY STAMPER that I am …look for it in art stores or on Amazon..¼ inch masking tape . This link is just one that I found but there are others… depending on the size of your card… you might want the ½ in one or there is an 1/8 in one also… she is just very frugal using what she has….

Another HINT…is that I prefer FROG TAPE also on Amazon and in Lowes and Home Depot and Probably any hardware store I prefer it because I think it sticks better and is more removable… but thats just my choice… if you have low tack blue use it… but if you look closely down at the bottom she didn’t press the tape down well to the card and she had some bleeding down there as well… mostly its all about pressing the tape down well  BUT NOT TOO HARD or is might damage your paper when you try to remove…also you need to leave it till your watercolor is dry not too long as it also gets harder to remove…so like don’t wait 3 days to go back and remove it … it might remove easily but it might not…

VIDEO HINT: they tend to speed up the videos when they are do repetitive stuff and this is good and bad… you might not have noticed that while she puts down dark color at the beginning of each segment she goes back and ads more water so that she gets an ombre effect to the color… all solid dark red is not as appealing as variated shadings of red…

HINT: Now all of that said.. .I remembered after this piece dried…. that WATERCOLOR ALWAYS dries significantly lighter than it looks when its wet..so keep the in mind when you are working yours …..I had togo ahead and use it for my SCRIBBLED LIVES PIECE because I was on a deadline and no time to paint and then let dry another piece… but I hope to do that soon. STILL I’d try for the ombre effect.

I hope you faithful followers will hang in there I do have some ideas in my head just no time to put them on paper… so don’ t too disappointed if you don’t see a post every week…

I ALSO WANT TO REMIND YOU THAT GRACEFUL ENVELOPE submissions are due the end of March and the theme this year WEATHER… check the link for deails.
