DAWN’S Z FOLD FLAP CARD

Since this will probably be my last post from Florida I thought I’d show a few very Florida style photos…however these were all from the net and they were all from AUSTRALIA…however we do have huge gators those they appear to be crocs…and in the past few years FLORIDA HAS BEEN overrun with pythons that were turned loose in the everglades and they they have thrived… they are some so large that they have even fought and WON against fairly large gators… we don’t however have any kangaroo’s as far as I know. We do have gators and most golfers buy new balls rather go in the water traps to retrieve what might already be the gators. ok on to cards and things…

card..

Both of these cards are created the same just with different sentiments..  You know by now how much I love cards with unusual folds… and while the Z fold is not that unique adding the flap on this one makes it different… Below are two of my samples one for my Hubby’s birthday ( which was last week) and the other a different version of a birthday card..

I will give you a heads up that I should have glued the panel  a little further in so that the flap worked better to hold the card shut..also slightly heavier card stock  on the flap would have been better…would have been also have helped.

I want to give you some links to a few sites that will show you how to make your own envelopes… they are fun and if you use your old calendar pages or even magazine pages as well as all types of decorator or text weight paper…

HAPPY PUPPY TRUFFLES VIDEO after you have watched the video then you can go to the additional link and print out some papers to make the valentine heart envelope as well as number of other patterns …..weird name but lots of good info and freebees…

MY FOLDED from their web site printed paper

This same fold can be done with almost any rectangle…so you can use any paper or your can use magazine pictures or calendar pages… here is the link for printable papers/patterns  ORIGAMI VIDEO FROM HAPPY PUPPY TRUFFLES this fold will basically work with all rectangles so you can use magazines, text designer paper, or even light weight calendar pages…just cut then rectangle shape… If you use designer printer paper you can even write your letter then fold it and mail it… I do suggest that you use a return mail label or an address label to be sure you hold it closed so that it goes thru that weird canceling machine with getting ripped .  ORIGAMI PRINTABLE ENVELOPE TEMPLATES

FAUX SILK TECHNIQUE

I want to apologize for the fact that some of the Links in EYE CANDY posts don’t always link up… sometimes what happens is while I am able to go find it…it won’t hold when I post it …since this seems to be a technical problem I am not sure what happens sometimes the link just isn’t active any longer… again I am sorry.

I want to share a technique that I saw on the STAMPING SCHOOL web site but since it is also STAMPIN UP site… I am fairly sure that both DAWN AND SCS both have the same technique.  They ( STAMPIN UP) have a paper they use for this technique called FILTER PAPER.  It does have the texture of a coffee filter but it seems to be lighter so that once its layered over the images they show thru better than they would thru a coffee filter..but I also found that you can use tissue paper in white or even with some pattern as you will see from my samples… again its THAT USE WHAT YOU HAVE.. so if all you have is a coffee filter then give that a try too…

TECHNIQUE: Basically you stamp your images on watercolor paper …use dark vibrant colors for best results or if you want a very soft result use light soft colors.  When they are dry cut your FILTER PAPER OR TISSUE PAPER slightly larger then your watercolor paper and then using either glue stick or light liquid glue spread it over the complete image and then press your FILTER PAPER OR TISSUE PAPER on top and smooth it out… when dry ( you can use a heat tool if you are impatient like me…lol) if you are using slightly watered down glue or the glue in the double ended ZIG GLUE…you can also spread a light amount on the top but especially with the tissue paper go easy or you will tear the tissue paper . While its wet you could sprinkle glue on it and tap it off… but then once its dry go ahead and make your card you can also layer other elements on top …. I am not much for ribbon but this would lend itself to ribbon for sure… its an elegant effect/technique…

STAMPING UP does sell this FILTER PAPER and it comes in packages of either white or a soft ecru… it also has several sheets that are 6 x12 and several that are round about 5 or 6 inches… all of it once glued down seems to be a little more transparent or see thru than the tissue paper …and I can’t remember exactly but think its about 5 or 6 dollars.  Dawn ships very quickly but if you have a demonstrator or sales rep that you use I am sure they all have it…

So this technique is quick and easy and I really like the texture and softness it gives to your card.  Give it a try and let me know what you think…or send images of your efforts…

Posting is going to get iffy again due to packing up to head to WA for the summer .
