FANTASY FRIDAY SCRIPT (kh )

BOO YA’LL

Have no idea where I saw this probably on FB someone sent it too me and it just cracked (no pun intended) me…so had to share it…happy halloween

I am getting back my southern accent as we will among our souther family soon.  lol I have to share this with you because it is soooo WEIRD and I have never had it happen  before.  You should know that I have a thing for PURSES AND SHOES… I am pretty sure its heredity as my Mom has a thing for SHOES AND WATCHES…lol.. anyway best I can remember I bought this great pair of ECCO flats about 2006 or so as is often the case with me I kept saving them i.e. never wearing them… until last FRIDAY when I pulled them out and since it was raining this looked like a good choice… well I noticed right away that my feet were sticking a bit to the wood floor but I looked at the bottoms and decided it was just because they had never been worn YET!!! So I just ignored it and went to dinner with friends…next day I put them on again as we were heading to visit a few days with my Aunt and Uncle. Again something I never do is pack ONLY ONE PAIR OF SHOES…in this case I did have flip flops in the side pouch for use in the hotel room.. but otherwise I had only this new pair I was wearing which while still sticking a little were very comfortable…

We stopped for  gas just before arriving at destination and I reached down to get my purse off floor and noticed that while My hubby had put new clean floor mats in car two days ago mine was full of crud…but I grabbed my purse and headed to bathroom.  On my way back I noticed that the rocky area seemed to be poking thru shoes i.e. it was poking me in the foot…. I got in car removed my shoe and this is what I found

my old new

my old new shoes

As you can see the tops and iside are perfectly new …however the bottom was shedding rubber like one of this wheel things you see on the side of the freeway… pieces were falling off in huge hunks and my foot would have been exposed to ground if not for the leather lining on the inside …. I was AMAZED… I did not know that your shoes can literally fall apart when they are not worn… they were not kept in the heat and in fact they were stored in a box with the no moisture thingie in the box and wrapped in tissue… SO MY TIP FOR THE YEAR IS DON’T SAVE SHOES…wear those babies before you have a major wardrobe malfunction and have to go buy another pair of shoes just to get through the weekend…also NEVER pack only one pair of shoes.. lmao…. ok onto LETTERS

KH FANTASY FRIDAY SCRIPT

KH FANTASY FRIDAY SCRIPT

I  was recently  confined to the couch with my leg up due to some minor surgery and so there was a lot of TV watching going on and I was watching DUNE on the SCIFI station and it was a friday so they kept showing this screen that said FANTASY FRIDAY and I had paper and pencil handy plus my phone so I took picture of the screen and then started playing with the monoline script…obviously  its it is a font but I had no idea what it was called and didn’t feel like trying to find it so I  just decided to go with the letters they had on the screen and then make up the rest of them… for the most part it is a tall, narrow set of letters and the special effects are that they used dots for crossbars on the A,E, F, H…. then I decide to also add the dot to the center of the O…. and I suggested that if that was enough you could add it the Q and maybe the U or P as well.

I would not suggest that you use the dot in the center of any of the other letters with bowls like B,D to me that is just too much.  But hey its ok to play…

The pen I used to write the exemplar is the WRITER by ZIG …

zig writer pen

This and my SAKURA GLAZE GEL (black) are my go to pens for lettering and this one is the one I use to write my exemplars most of the time… mainly due to the fact that it has two size tips/nibs …a large bullet on one end and a small not really a bullet but a fine point on the other end… both tips last well beyond the amount of ink i.e. they don’t wear out they run out…the large bullet doesn’t get mushy like a sharpie will and while they are permanent ink on both ends they don’t bleed through your papers like a sharpie will.

Also I like to show you the letters in a larger than you will probably use except for single words or names on envelopes…it is easier to see what the letters really look like when written large then taking them down to the smaller size gives you a better idea of what is possible for greetings in/on your cards.

This is not just a DISPLAY (meaning that it best be used only for single words and not sentences or phrases)..but it is clean and easily legible so that it can work for even a long letter if you chose to write one with it.

So as you can see I love letters and love looking at them and writing them so here is fun new script that maybe will work with your Christmas cards… yes, its time to start thinking about that… SO practice and play.

SCS LAYERED AUTUMN TREES

SCS LAYERED AUTUMN TREES

SCS LAYERED AUTUMN TREES

This is an incredible technique and you need to watch her video to see exactly how she does it and she is using WATERBASED MARKERS, in her case the distress markers and distress ink pads that are dye based and NOT waterproof..the colors would be some different but you could also try using the TOMBOW water based markers with the brush end…I do believe that the tree stamp is stamped in permanent black dye ink. There are a lot of layers here and they are by necessity going to make your paper wet so as she suggested you need to use watercolor paper for best results…even heavy card stock will start to “PILL” up with this much moisture on it…and if you want really smooth watercolor paper then try buying the hot press…in a large sheet ..then cutting it up…

Now the LAZY STAMPER IN ME…would never want to do more than one of these cards but the LAZY STAMPER is also resourceful so what I would say is if you like this a lot then DO ONE perfect one and then either scan it into your computer and print it on photo paper or take it to Kinko’s or some printing shop and print it there on color/photo paper and cut it to fit on your cards… yes, they are only getting a copy but its a lot of work and maybe there only one someone who would really appreciate the original or perhaps save it for your own portfolio… REMEMBER  this is the LAZY STAMPER talking not the perfectionist who would make one for each person or maybe like my friend Steph you might enjoy the process so making multiples is not a problem for you… In any case I wanted to share the technique with you… ENJOY

EYE CANDY  WESTERN AUSTRAILIA CALLIGRAPHERS this is a link to ISDI college Mumbai..I am linking you to this FB page and you should be able to open it even if you don’t have a FB account if you look at both the first video on the top left and the one down on the right with the man bent over a huge strip of paper those are the ones I really wanted to share… the MAN is ACHYUT PALAV… and he has his own web site as well abut the video on the Western Austrailia FB PAGE is not on his web site… but he is lettering with so many different tools and they are not your usual calligraphic tools but the results are fantastic and the number of students in the workshop is incredible also.

The first one at the top is just various types of letters all done with a regular ( well maybe a more flexible ) fountain pen and its incredible also… if you have a Face Book account I recommend you follow this group as they have some wonderful stuff…

This next picture is the pop up box card that I posted a few weeks ago and this one was a birthday one done by my most talented friend JANIS BLEVINS… had to share it cause it was just to great…

PINTEREST HALLOWEEN…

Sorry this is late again… well actually I did tell you a while back that I was not going to be so fussy about when I posted… either check often or subscribe to receive the e-mails that there is a new post…it is free.

If you don’t have a PINTEREST account then this might make you want to get one…there are tons of handmade cards on it so its a great source of inspiration and they are in some categories like birthday and then I found HALLOWEEN...OMG…well see for yourself… some of these will have a link you can type in and go to see if they give the directions but most of them are pretty easy to figure out and I am going to give you my take on how its done… I just couldn’t resist sharing all of these great cards…If you want to go to Pinterest yourself and find cards…in search type in HANDMADE CARDS and then BIRTHDAY , HALLOWEEN, CHRISTMAS OR JUST HANDMADE CARDS… you will be there a long time..lol..

EASY spider /web

EASY spider /web

This one is pretty simple but still very impressive… its a layered card with three layers and I am only guessing on the sizes but my guess are… BLACK 3 1/2 x 4 1/2 THEN orange is 3 x 4 ” and white is 2 1/2 x 3 1/2..she stamped a web and the the spider is either die cut or an commercial  embellishment.   I don’t know who the HAPPY HALLOWEEN stamp belongs to but its cute or you could hand write..I’d use either there black Glaze gel pen by Sakura or the Orange .

PINTEREST MUMMY TORN PAPER

PINTEREST MUMMY TORN PAPER

This one is a couple of years old but I still love it… its simply torn paper with the edges rubbed with looks like brown ink to give it a old look  and leave a hole on one side to glue on goggly eyes…. I can never resist a chance to use goggly eyes… lol… Boo stamp unknown but there are lots of them out there… or again grab your pen this is one season where wobbly or jagged letters are most acceptable in fact they look great.. so get out your black SAKURA gel GLAZE pen SO THAT THE WRITING IS RAISED and shiny…or use your alphabet stamps different sizes would be good too if you have more than one set…hey don’t judge me…I am letter lover…

PINTEREST GHOST

PINTEREST GHOST

Getting a little harder and you don’t have to use the die cut basic shape but it does look good and I love this not sure how but it appears to stand but it could be layers onto the front of a black card with foam dots to lift it up … they used a die to cut the overall shape and I am not sure what that shape is called but its the same one I used to create the large owls and also to create DAWN’S frankie from last year..next I am pretty sure they used oval die for the mouth and also for the eyes and don’t think punches would reach that far into the shape this shape must be close to 4 x 5 .  NOW THE HARD PART OF THIS IS be sure you STAMP ON IT BEFORE you emboss it … so cut out your shapes and then stamp and last emboss …and of course this person missed a chance to use goggly eyes…lol…just sayin .. again your Sakura BLACK GLAZE gel pen would work to make a spider remember they have 8 legs not six …lol and then to write the OCT 31 down at the bottom… again you have to do this before you emboss it or you might have to layer on pieces after..

SU own punch used as a ghost.

SU own punch used as a ghost.

This is so cute using black as basic card sponge white around the edges then cut 11/4  x 3 1/2 inches of black ..card stock also with white sponge around edges and then little brass brads to create a drawer effect ….the ghosts are the owl punch from STAMPING UP without the extra piece and with the feet cut off and then turn it upside down… I ‘d love to know if someone was really that clever when they created the punch or if someone discovered it after it was laying on their desk…the eyes are small circles with a white dot for the center but off center works best…they throw a few white spider webs on the corners of the card… and I did a screen capture to get this image and apparently I didn’t get the piece at the bottom where it looks like one of the label punch/dies and it probably says Happy Halloween or BOO or something like that… but you know my re-purposing fetish so it would be a cute birthday card if it said BIRTHDAYS AREN’T SCARY…or BOO then inside Happy Birthday… anyway its all because  A) I have so many halloween stamps, dies, and punches and B) because I love to use them….lmao

SU OWL GHOSTS

SU OWL GHOSTS

Again these little ghosts are the owl punch upside down with feet cut off… I am certain the BOO is letter dies but don’t know who make them as they are pretty large… improvise… type them on computer and cut them out with fussy cut scissors.  The background is a sizzix spider web embossing template on the orange card stock… this time EMBOSS first then glue or foam dot your pieces on…the happy halloween is double layered with label punches or dies.

WITCH USING SPOOKY WORD STAMP

WITCH USING SPOOKY WORD STAMP

Wow too cute….The SPOOKY STAMP is from Michaels…and was marked a CRAFT SMART… think it was last years but you may still find it or again print it with your own pens or even on the cuter and then cut it out…or cut the whole piece of card stock and stamp around the printed word…run your paper through the printer the LANDSCAPE WAY then the stamps are from STAMPING UP SET CALLED TEE HEE-HEE…it has both the witches hat or similar and shoes and leggins.. the words EEK AND TEE HEE-HEE are also in there so you could use them instead of the spooky stamp. Or you could write it sideways yourself and use a hat and boots stamp… I thought this was just too cute..and I would probably layer it onto designer paper and then onto card. Or the embossing but think the two layers at the bottom are a bit busy for my taste.

bat/owl STAMPIN UP

bat/owl STAMPIN UP

I just love this punch from STAMPIN UP…first he is a great owl but as you have seen he is a good ghost as well as now a bat… looking at this I thought they were using small circle pieces to create the bat wings but here this person was great a telling you just what they did use and it was not circle punch but oval punch… terrific…. if the trees at bottom are a stamp not sure whose but there is a small fiskar punch for trees actually in two sizes that would work terrific with this image… I think that the bird builder punch is what he used for the branch but you could just draw it or stamp it or there are several dies out there that would cut a branch.

SU boots

SU boots

Ok this witches boots came from a STAMPIN UP and its called BOOTFUL OCCASIONS… the saying at the bottom was actually attached to the boot on my set but I VERY carefully cut it off so I could stamp it where I wanted it… there are three other boots in set each with a saying and I am not sure you can cut off the sayings for each of them but I will certainly look and if possible I will try.. not sure why they attached them…maybe there are actually SOME STAMPERS EVEN LAZIER THEN ME….and just wanted to stamp once…lmao… in addition you will need to cut the boots out in the so called “FUSSY CUT” fashion with sharp scissors to get this effect… and you will need to stamp the boot twice… but I do like the boots and there is a cowboy boot that says kick up your heels so that would work well for a party….

SO HERE ARE SEVERAL IDEAS FOR MAKING HALLOWEEN CARDS...the time is NOW!!

AS ALWAYS THANKS FOR STOPPIN BY wire headed cyber toad…aka kath

SCS SWING Z FOLD CARD

HI THERE …better late than never right!! Z FOLD CARDS are maybe one of the most common types to share with beginners but I am going to show you a few variations on the idea that work if you a well seasoned card maker.  This first one is from SCS and what makes it unique is that you are going to use your die cut machine and cut the image ONLY 1/2 way out … so when card is folded only half the image is cut out of the card… This one is a little busy for my taste but you can see the idea and add or subtract as necessary…the important part is to only cut half way thru on your die so you may want to use tape to mark where you want to stop i.e. run it into die cut machine 1/2 WAY THEN BACK IT BACK OUT… if you do happen to cut it all the way out no worries use the cut out to glue on the inside of the card and still fold the Z its still impressive just not quite as involved.  SO, ready set GO…

AS ALWAYS its at good idea to watch the video first just so you know for sure how they are doing it and also the printed tutorial I would save in a sheet protector and then also cut at least the base card and score for a sample…our old brains just don’t hold what they use too…or maybe its just there is too much stuff to hold anyway here is SCS’s VERSION

DAWN’S Z FOLD VIDEO

This is another take yet on a totally different pattern but still a Z fold and in case you haven’t figured out yet they are all called Z fold because if you look straight down on them standing up they are a Z shape…you know ZORRO… lol.. any way we have done some of these before and I may have even posted this one before but there is her link anyhow and I am going to do a halloween one ( what else) and show you my version of it with halloween stuff instead of flowers…. but it can be any thing you know… h

DAWN'S Z FOLD CARD no swing

DAWN’S Z FOLD CARD no swing

Dawn used layers and I like that but you can also try it with duplex paper and then you can do solid or multi colored flowers etc… any type of embellishment that goes with your card.  Bear in mind that if your embellishments stick up above the top of card that you might need a larger envelope like a 5×7 inch one….no extra charge for mailing unless there are bumps…but I think the card has more pizazz if you do put the embellishment part way above the card…and as with the SCS CARD they both will stand on their own….I don’t know about you but I love to display my cards so this Z fold is really good for that…

one more z fold idea..most common but stellar idea

one more z fold idea..most common but stellar idea

The spider and web card above is from a FANTASTIC CLASS I recently took at IMPRESS RUBBER STAMPS IN tukwilia WA…The teacher was Linda ( didn’t get her last name)..all those cards plus several more were made in that class and was terrific…the spider and web ( both die cuts and I am not sure whose but they have them at Impress so you can call and mail order if you are not close by) are glued onto  the Z fold of that black card…so standard 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 scored at 4 1/4 and then score the front panel again at 2 1/8 and if you scor tool doesn’t have that measure then just fold the front flap back on itself so the front right edge meets the back left fold.

THEN just when I thought I was done I came across this one on Pinterest…no directions but close look and I saw it was the circle swing thinlit die or at least that is what I used. Last year I used DAWN’S FRANKIE and I loved it but when I saw this one I had to give it a try also and it is also a variation on swing folds…so here is mine…using the thinlits circle swing or flip flop fold die.

z fold kh 1

sorry got it a little blurry but you can see it and on the inside I just layered another smaller circle on the swing part and wrote …GOT CANDY…for the HAIR… I just cut ragged pieces and you will need to use two pieces or the card won’t open or will tear when they try to open it… This thinlits die is available at AMAZON and also thru STAMPIN UP…

ok this is way late so I am going to post and move on to next week… AS ALWAYS THANKS FOR STOPPIN BY…kath aka wire headed cyber toad…

DAWN’S PUNCH ART DOG

GREETINGS and SALUTATIONS…

I DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU BUT I WAS IN LOVE WITH THESE GUYS… My Mom and my BFF BOTH LOVE DOGS and so of course this is going to be part of their birthday cards… however I am going to have them in the pop up box… along with a heart that says happy birthday at least that’s the plan and when I get the first one done I will post it at the bottom of this blog…

DAWN'S PUNCH ART DOGS

DAWN’S PUNCH ART DOGS

DAWN’S PUNCH ART DOG…

MY DIE CUT DOGS

I say they are die cuts because I didn’t have the oval punches and frankly didn’t want to buy them…. I did however have oval dies from nestibilities… at least I think that’s where they came from. SO below are two samples from the two sizes I used both will fit on an A2 size card but the larger one pretty much fills it…

So how do you make them work… well it took several tries but I discovered that one needs the following ovals;

2  for the body /head…and you overlap them a little

1 for the legs and you follow Dawn and cut it in half diagonally

1 in white for the face

All of the above are the same size oval… so if you are making the big dog use big ovals and if you are making the smaller one use small ovals…

EARS…. on the small dog I used a raindrop punch that I had and on the large dog I used a small triangle punch that I had … I think either one works…and maybe you will come up with another one that would work as well…

NOSE… YES I admit it  I do have two different size heart punches… lol…

EYES… I used two size hole punches and then the white pen in the eye…

Finally I used a small sun punch for the dog tag on the small dog and a flower punch for the dog tag on the large dog…

I do have the PHRASE PUNCH from STAMPIN UP so I did use that for his feet but you could just cut two 1/4″ strips and round them and add the feet..

MY DIE CUT DOGS

MY DIE CUT DOGS

I did love the owls but have many friends that love dogs so thought these were too cut to pass up… Hope you enjoy them also and sorry for posting delay but life happened.

EYE CANDY  this is my eye candy this week…. look at the photo closely it is not really a BIRD but a female model who has been body painted to look like a bird… Just amazing I think so had to share…THANKS CAROLE CROSE FOR SHARING WITH ME

parrot/woman

IT’S NOT A BIRD. When this landed in my inbox. I could not resist sharing it. This parrot is in fact a female model who posed for Johannes Stötter, a fine art body painter. Using breathable paint, he spent hours painstakingly turning this woman into the image of a parrot, brushstroke by brushstroke. The model’s arm forms the parrot’s head and beak, and her legs form the wing and tail feathers. Remember: things aren’t always what they appear to be.
